Question about DeLonghi Prima Donna Avante ESAM6700 Automatic Coffee Coffee Maker

Machine displaying general alarm the infuser slide was very tight freed up and reassembled now turning the machine on results in an arc at the motor brushes which blows the RCD breaker.

Turning motor and transmission over by finger is quite possible but maybe a little tight? Trying to decide if the transmission is tight or the motor brushes worn??

Thanks Trevor - After some more thought I popped the toothbelt of the motor sprocket the transmission seems nice and free so I powered up from a non RCD powerpoint and the one brush just arced - pulled the motor out and pulled the end plate of the motor plenty of brushes left measured bar to bar on the commutator typically 40ohms but there are two pairs of bars where the resistance is in the Mega ohms so I assume one or two armeture windings are knackered ?

Sounds Like you know more than most on this site. Perhaps they have been overheated across those 2 bars and just thrown the solder out which might be fixable. Good Luck

Hi Chris
Good Job freeing it all up etc. Your 90% there
Can you remove brushes & clean and stretch a millimetre more out of brush leads to stop arcing. Or perhaps the load is to great.
I did notice you said RCD.
RCD's usually only trip when an in-balance occurs between the hot phase wire & neutral wires.
Eg... what goes in via phase wire must come out on neutral wire. Even a small millivolt trickle to ground will trip an RCD. (20-30ma)
The Residual Current Device is for electric shock Safety.
It is not the main fuse or circuit breaker.
RCD's can be a real pain when there is a slight moisture leak.
For Example.
My fridge in my Winnebago would trip the RCD after it hadn't been used for awhile. The insulation around the 10A heating element was damp & tripping the RCD continually.
So how do I bypass the RCD to heat the element up and get rid of moisture. My method was to use a stand alone generator with no RCD to power the RV.
Worked great. Once the element surroundings were dry it ran fine on the home 240vAC.
So... If you really are tripping the RCD then the problem is AC "LEAKING" to Earth. Usually Moisture.....Try a hair dryer
If it is really blowing a Fuse or Circuit Breaker then the problem is too much current being drawn in circuit.
Hope this Helps
Trevor

I had the same problem with a second hand dellnghi 330s machine I bought today. I opened it up ( not the tricky steam knob: kust pull hard to get off, i used a screwdriver as a lever) and found a kind of resistor in a clear tube, clamped to the body of the machine. Only one of the ends was bent over and the clamp was not grasping it properly. So I straighten it, made sure the clamp was holding the actual resistor and... Voila! No more fuse trippings!

I had the same problem with the infuser stuck at the top and the triangle light staying lit. I fixed it by unplugging it from the wall. I then removed the side panel and the back panel.

Facing the rear move the sprocket that the motor drives. The best way to start it (if it is stuck) is with a flat screen driver on the right side of the motor and push the sprocket towards the front. Once it starts you can either pull the belt from the other side or push it from the right side. It took 10 minutes to get the infuser to completely come down.

After that I pulled it out and cleaned everything. When I put everything back together the light stayed on and the machine would not respond. I did fix it by turning on the machine, pulled the power plug, and when I plugged it back in the system went through its cycle. Everything is fine now.

Unable to remove the infuser from ESAM5500 Coffee & Cappuccino maker. Any suggestions?

Hopefully you've solved the problem by now, if not:
I had the same issue and assumed that 'Turning the appliance off' ment turning the main switch off behind the unit. This is not the case. Just turn off the unit using the button on the top left of the facier panel. I then found that the pressing in of the 2 red button allowed the infuser to slide out easily.

Put back together, turn on the machine, then turn of the machine with the power button on the machine, then turn of the power point, should be back in place to push in both red buttons, enjoy your working machine and coffee, cant find an answer for my issue

There is a blockage in the steam/ hot water circuit. By trying repeatedly to use these functions the steam boiler has now overheated and blown a thermal fuse ( thats why the alarm is displayed and now the infuser is in the wrong position for removal). If this machine is under warranty you should return it as soon as possible. If no warranty and you are a handy person (genuinely) then post again and i can help you fix it. No Good luck Rick.

Can't remove infuser to clean it

Turning off the power with the button is not enough. Instead, to remove the infuser: unplug the machine, wait a few seconds, plug it in again and turn the machine on. Even though you are technically turning it on, the machine will sense it was not turned off in an ok way, so it will "properly" shut off (and unlock the infuser).

Magnifico eam3200 series...centre piece jammed

I have a perfecta and found that the mechanism that translates the infused up and down was jammed. I unplugged it and removed the back panel - two phillips screws - then you will see the motor and cog belt -BE SURE UNPLUGGED - I then turned the motor shaft using my index finger against the cog belt and with the access door open I could see the infuser translate down to a park position. I took it through an entire cycle which actually retracted the infuser and actuated the coffee grind sweep arm - there is a horizontal feature that looks like a sideways 'L' that seems to be a reference for the park location - since when the top of the infuser was at this mark the infuser unit could be removed and the infuser was in the compact configuration as described in the user manual. I am getting a general alarm still and would like to know if anyone could point me to an electrical schematic and functional sequence block diagram.
