Question about Maytag Washing Machines

1 Answer

Our maytag centennial tries to "sense" the load but it gets hung up and doesn't sense or sticks on the second spin of the sensing. It will not switch over to wash.

SOURCE: Maytag Auto Load-Sensing Washer does not fill

Did you ever get an answer - all I see are ads :-(

We have the same problem. Not enough water to rinse - even with extra rinse selected. Even our laundry comes out the color of the laundry detergent. I'm sure this is a result of government regulations to reduce water usage. We'll contact Maytag tomorrow.

SOURCE: Limited agitation during wash cycle Load Sense OK

Possible that the program selected is an easy wash as this is meant for daily wash , less soiled clothes.
If however the same situation is present in all the cycles then the capacitor to the motor must be checked as it can reduce the speed of the motor.
Also check the belt , check for friction on the drum spindle and the motor.

SOURCE: H2low whirlpool top load washer turns on, fills with water for a second and stops...keeps making a sound on the sensing mode but does not get to wash mode to continue washing.

if the washer is only one month old contact whirlpool and they will give you a service company in your area to contact and it the repair will be free of charge as long as the problem is with the washer and not something that you are doing wrong or something wrong with the way that it is installed, the unit is under mfg. warrnty for one year from date of purchase.
things to check before calling would be, water connections correct? hot to hot cold to cold. are both the hot and cold water turned on?
kinked lines?
i would call a whirlpool certified repair company, they will send a guy out and if its broken they will fix it for free.

SOURCE: want to disengage lid lock on maytag centennial

I had the same problem. The lid lock assembly is broken. If you are under warranty get it replaced. If not remove the top of the washer and take out the switch assembly. The 4 wires going in are Yellow, Red, White, and Blue. If you short the white and blue together, the washer thinks the lid is closed. If you short the red white and blue together the washer thinks the lid is closed and locked. The yellow is only there to activate the electromagnetic switch.
Disconnecting the switch assembly will not work.
The electromagnet locks the lid and it also unlocks the lid. It is not a matter of cutting the power to the magnet.
Installing 2 switches that connect the red white and blue is the best option if you want to remove the lock.
The first switch should connect the white and blue. (LID CLOSED)
The second should connect the red to the white/blue connection. (LID LOCKED)
After that the lid should work.
Please post a follow-up if this works for you.
GOOD LUCK

My washer started making a loud noise and won't drain or spin.

What brand of washer? Does it have a drive belt? If it doesn't have a drive belt. If it sounds like the motor is running, it has a coupler between the motor and the transmission. Very inexpensive and easy to change.

Why does my maytag yop loading centennial washer sometimes spin and sometimes not?I can move the washer cycle knob to different cycles and I will still have the same problem

I had the same problem kinda. Does it start to agitate before it fills with water? Its supposed to fill with water, agitate, sense the amount of the load, then fill with the correct amount of water. If it agitates right away then you need a water level/ temperature control sensor. I replaced mine and no longer have the problem of wet clothes at the end of the cycle. The part number is w10248240. Look on you tube for a video on how to replace. The one I saw showed how to diagnose the sensor. The part cost about $90 and it took longer for me to get out my tools than replacing the part. This part goes bad by starting the machine then adding more clothes after it starts. You can also try blowing air down the tube from the back of the sensor. It didn't work for me but was suggested and blowing the air didn't cost anything.

You may have interrupted the drain cycle so you may need to empty all the water out to reset sensor.maybe move machine to w/h door and lower the drain hose outside until most of water is removed then start wash again from scratch. Or your out of balance switch activated if you tilted the machine, if so reach in the back at top of bowl and you should find a lever arm, jiggle gently back and forth then try the machine again.

This unit does not handle a super large load as it advertised. When you put a super large load, the sensor is over-sized and will not move on the next cycle.

I have a maytag centennial washer MVWC400XWO it is 3 years old. The washer has stopped after the initial wash cycle leaving the cloths wet in a tub full of water. The washer will not go to the spin/drain...

For saftey the lid lock and lid down switch must be activated before the machine can advance to the next cycle. This has been the sequence for all top loaders..

Check the switch for the lid it is likely defective.

Make sure that the power is removed.

Simple repair by a qualified technician.

Hope this helps?

Why does my maytag centennial agitate while it fills

The symptoms you are describing are most likely caused by a bad load sensing switch. The relay in the switch sticks and allows the washer agitate before it fills.

A simple check is to access the load sense switch and unplug the wires to it. Then check the operation. I have provided you with the instructions for accessing the load sense switch in the images below. I am also including the checks that can be made if you have a volt/ohm meter. Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts.

Once the console is open the load sense switch is the switch that has the clear plastic hose connected to it. Remove the connector that has the violet, white and the blue with orange stripe from the switch. Then carefully plug the washer back in and start a wash cycle. If the washer does not do anything, you need to replace the load sense switch (part number W10177795). If the washer still agitates, the problem is most likely a failed timer (part number W10243947).

Maytag centennial commercial technology washer, having intermittent trouble with controls, wondering how to acess controls to clean connections ?

There are two 1/4 inch hex screws on the back of the control panel and a pair of metal tabs at the base that hold the panel assembly together. I found this video on youtube that illustrates how to take the assembly apart.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yxjNiAKvYwI fixed mine by just cleaning the contacts on the auto load sensing switch.
