first are these actual programs or just icon shortcuts ther is an aesy way of checking this right clicking on the icon and selecting properties you can see how many mb's/kb's this icon consists of if they are just the icon and not a required program you can delete them
if you formatted the hard drive yesterday there will be no icons on your screen as you would have had to install a new operating system

You need some 3rd party software like Wondershare Data Recovery and a external drive to restore files. I only mention this one, because I recently used it. Do a deep and thorough scan while not selecting a type or location. Then restore.
