Do you have the "chuck key"? this is the tool you will need to undo the chuck (part which holds the drill bit). it is often stored in holder in handle of drill. If you dont have chuck key you can improvise using 2 slot head screwdrivers: insert one into one of the 3 holes around chuck, then insert the other into the teeth around check and lever against the 1st screwdriver.

Keyless chuck drill just spins

Some times the selector on top get gummed up with dust, it just needs cleaning. You were right to put it into 1st gear to remove the chuck with a big allen key, you get more resistance in the gears.

Remove drill bit from 18 volt drill

Put the dril in forward, hold the collar, and just bump the switch long enough to get the internal portion to turn. The bit will likely fall out at that point.

Keyless chucks are make in a way that each of the jaws have an exposed heel that can grab onto larger bits that were inserted too far into the chuck.

Hello, how do I change the drill bit

There are key and keyless drills and some have a quick connect spring device. To change the unplug then chuck open it all way & insert screwdriver. Most chuck screws are left handed (turn right to loosen) some drills have no screw inside the chuck. Insert a large allen wrench and tighten next hit the allen wrench counter clockwise to remove the drill chuck.

Hello my drill bit holder is stuck open and the fingers that hold the drill bit won't come out of the housing no matter how hard I turn it.

If you go to this URL you will see a screw that is #1 in the exploded view.

If the chuck on your drill is open you might be able to access this screw. It appears that this screw holds the chuck onto the drill and removing it might allow you to remove and then replace the chuck. I am not 100% sure of this, but it looks like a good place to start.

How to use hand drills?

Use of both is the same:
- loosen "chuck" (part where bit is installed).
- insert bit (hand tighen chuck so that bit is secured)
- tighten chuck securely with chuck tool, or by holding rotating chuck with hand and pulling trigger (GENTLY or you will shave off skin!)
- put drill in forward or reverse mode and pull trigger to inser or remove screw / drill hole.

ensure that battery is charged on cordless drilll.
squeeze connectors to remove and place in charger when battery is too low to operate drill.

Removing centre screw from chuck

Drill a hole in the top of the phillips head screw with a 3/16 th's bit. Don't drill the head of the screw off, just drill deep enough for a torx bit to hold. Take a T-30 torx bit and tap in into the hole you have drilled. Then turn the screw clockwise and it should come out fairly easily.

How do you change the drill bit for a Ryobi?

My husband explained this, via phone ..... made it simple....... grab the silver ring area beneath the black top area where the drill bit is located. Hold the silver area firmly, while you twist the black top. You will see the release, then remove drill bit. Laymen's terms, but it worked!!
