Re: door won't open
Usually, the gears either become misaligned, or they will break on you - since they are plastic, this is a common issue. There really isn't much you can do. Even opening it up might not do much for you, as it's very hard to get the gears back into place, or to see what is causing the jam in the first place. If you take it to a service center, they shouldn't charge you much if the gears are out of whack. But if something is broken inside, that's a different story. You'll need to find out what caused the error in the first place.

Assuming there is not a forgotten tape stuck in the VCR side, the mode selection logic has gotten all confused. On the VCR side, a tape is grabbed and loaded to be played. There probably is an EJECT button that is enabled for later use. The DVD side is disabled so no buttons work. On the DVD side, the open/close button is enabled (if no VCR-side problem is detected), allowing you to place a DVD in the tray and close it to play. The VCR side is disabled so no buttons work. That's the theory. From your description a sensor on the VCR side may have failed or been damaged, causing the player to keep reverting to VCR and preventing use of the DVD side.
when you hit the eject button try tapping the top above the disk drive. it may be somewhat stuck. if that doesnt fix it you might have a broken belt or a belt may have come off in it. the belt controls the movement of the drive in and out
try to re start the power first to reset the supply in which the door unable to open and then push the open/close button to open the door. if still won't open maybe their is an stuck up at mechanical part, so turn off the player then use a Phillip screw driver to loosen the screws and to remove the cover of the DVD player .you can now access the disc mechanical assembly of your DVD player, remove the CD first and then check if the plastic gear is mis aligned or the the drive belt is broken.much better if you can apply silicon grease in plastic gear for smooth operation.then make sure the open/close button is ok, good luck and good day.
this could be a lot of differant issues. First thing I would do if your a tech or know how to troubleshoot solid state elctronics is try the easyest thing first like unplug unit for 12 to 24 hours. then open the unit and check for ripple on the b+ lines. if the power supply is good i would then check the slider as well as the return home/park switch. The make sure that the slider does return to home and that the drive Ic for the motor is not over heating. If you cannot make these checks then the only thing you can do is try the reset like I said as it most likly will not be worth the bench charge to invest into this unit. thats the way these things are built, a throw away sociaty
