Hey Bigg t....Thanks for getting back to me!!! I check the phase current coming into the unit, and i have 119...119...120 to ground. No sign of over current!! I was thinking the motor may have a bad winding??Tomorrow I'm going to check resistance to each leg, then check amp draw to the motor. I'm hoping it's not in the circuit board!! That's a $1500.00 item easy.If there is anything you may suggest that would be great.Hobart only trains their own techs as you already know. And the school board here thinks we should know it all!! LOL Thanks again,Mike

Hey Bigg t.....Resistance on a,b,c are within 2.7 and 3.0.I took the belt off and the motor ran without cutting out.I'm starting to think that the encoder is out,and may need adjusting. As you know we don't have the equipment for that.Let me know what you think!!Thanks for all your help.Mike

I know what these codes are: code 19 is that phase c is over current fault and code 23 is a motor stall fault.I would start by making sure you 3 phase wiring going into the mixer is there.I service these mixers as im a service tech for hobart.these units are very detailed and i can walk you thru some things to check but if you have an electrical problem you most likley will have to call a hobart service tech because we have special equipment to diagnose the fault.let me know it may be something simple as these mixers are usally maintenance free.

That school board has no idea what there talking about,Next thing to check is the secondary side of the contactor making sure your not losing a leg there,it sits on the right side of the mixer and is next to the transformer.I would then check the motor stator resistance--Phase a--wire # 5/6 should be 2.7-3.0 ohms,Phase b--wire #3/4 should be 2.7-3.0,Phase c--wire # 1/2 should be 2.7-3.0 nominal resistance of each phase is 2.8 ohms. Will the mixer run with no load in it?code 23 supercedes code 19 so dont worry about that code. Also make sure there are no shorts to ground. To test motor phase to ground-----An open circuit must exist between each motor phase winding and ground although any reading above 500k ohms is ok.Diconnect low side of motor phase wires from t2,t4,and t,6 on tb1 of the sr drive--this is the control board on the right hand side of the mixer as well and tb1 is at the bottom and is marked.measure the resistance between motor leads and an unpainted surface of the frame,if resistance is below 500k the motor is bad.Try these out and let me know.

Hey mike,if all your legs are good i think you may have a problem with the sr drive (switched reluctance).Code 19 is an error on phase c,just make sure that leg is o.k.Try switching any 2 leads and see if a different code comes up.code 17 would be phase a--code 18 would be phase b. dont loose track of phase c wire because if a different code comes up it may very well be that wire.Is your circuit breaker to the unit big enough and not old?Is the staff overloading the mixer? We have a blip box we use to tell us if the encoder is in sync with the sr drive and there are 2 types of encoders we use depending on the year of the mixer. If you want to get in more depth you can call me and ill read thru my service manual with you i cant fax it to you i could lose my job.Let me know

Glad you got it going.I did speak to the engineers about your problem and they told me that if this problem continues you could have a wild leg on the power side and if you remove power completly the ic chips on the sr drive reset themselves.Any other hobart questions post them and ill help you out,im an experienced tech on all of our equipment. Can you rate this problem as solved. Thanks mike have a nice holiday.

What is a good source for a reasonably priced 200-240V 2.7 HP switched reluctance motor found on Hobart's HL600 mixers?

Baldor no longer manufactures that motor. Hobart would have to install a kit that includes every electrical component in the machine. Be careful if you find a used one, they have a very fragile encoder on the rear of the motor.
