Hi Sharon,

I'm an electrician and can tell you that if you have an appliance or device that is immediately tripping a breaker - there's a serious issue with it. Likely a "dead short circuit" that will be pretty easy to locate. In the case of household (120/240 volt) devices - if you continue to attempt to power it on, you may eventually burn the short circuit away and the device could potentially cause someone to be hurt, shocked or even killed.

You need to disconnect the device you're turning on from the outlet, etc. and have it properly serviced before attempting to use it again. Even on 12 v auto circuits - repeatedly causing shirt circuits can lead to melting insulation - and creating a bigger repair job than it could have been.

Good luck!

SOURCE: Kitchenaid Dishwasher trips the 60-amp main breaker but not 20-amp.

Its possible that there may be load on that circuit from other appliances. Had an issue myself with stove and laptop on same circuit.
Check other appliance attached to the 60amp circuit (microwave, stove, kettle etc)

Yes they get weak over time.
The main will trip when it senses heat.

What's youI just wired in my J-300 Jacuzzi hot tub. The GFI trips every time I reset it. I took the GFI out of the equation and the tub runs fine, does not trip the breaker at the main breaker box

#1. DO NOT GET INTO TUB FULL OF WATER WITH A GROUND FAULT.
2. There is a short. You need to get multimeter and start checking each part for current running to ground wire.
3) Power is ON. Connect power without GFCI.
4) Tape tester leads to wood sticks to keep hands away from power.
5) Do not touch anything directly or you will become the ground rod.
6) Ground wire must be present, and bonded back to main panel box.
7) Do not sit or touch directly on cement or bare ground. Do not touch or lean into anything made of metal.
8) Body and parts must be on sheet of plywood, or similar non-conductive dry surface.
9) Test each part with spa, but also test electric line coming from main box.
10) GFCI will also trip with any fault detected on line. So the wire coming to spa may have the fault.
11) Add a new dedicated line from main box to spa.

E442 Fridge Was noisy, now trips mains power :(

Sounds like the compressor is grounded out causing the breaker to trip, but it could also be wiring, but if I recall most things in those type of machines reduce down to 12vdc and that wouldn't blow the breaker.

Brand new main breaker doesnt stay in on position

Turn the handle all the way to the OFF position, then turn it to ON. If it is tripping, then turn OFF all breakers, then turn ON the main. Turn ON each individual breaker until you find the one that is tripping the main. No offense, but you should consider calling a qualified electrician.

Hotpoint washing machine keeps tripping electric

First unplug your washer. Check the ground on the washer and make sure it isn't loose; this would be a good time to inspect the wiring harness for any problems. Next check the outlet (turn off the electric to that breaker first) make sure all the wires are tight and are making good contact; pay special attention to the neutral (white) wire. If that seems fine, and you are comfortable with going into you breaker panel, turn off that breaker and check the hot (the wire on the breaker) to make sure it isn't loose and then check the neutral wire. If either of these wires seem loose tighten them down....a loose wire will move when a load is put on it and cause the breaker to trip. If all seems normal and washer is still tripping the breaker you might want to replace the breaker.....they can go bad. Good luck!

When turning on central air, our main electrical breaker is tripping. This is a brand new home barely over 1 year old. Should the AC have a warranty not covered by a builders contract??

Builders give a one year warranty but your air conditioner has five years on all parts. Anything outside the unit is not covered under the ac warranty. Breakers, stopped up drain and dirty coils.
