Question about Tablets & eReaders

1 Answer

How do I get the back off.

I need to remove the back to try and replace the broken power socket. All repair shops (in the UK) say it will cost nearly as much as a new tablet, but I have found some replacement sockets on ebay for only a few quid. Is this a simple enough process?

Not that you won't get a good answer here; just that a video step by step would be much better! :)

Then do what I do: start poking around until things start coming apart! Everything comes apart with a little patience and prying! (And praying) good luck.

No power when plugged in? What did I do?

If you have a volt-ohm meter check that you have voltage at the plug to the computer. If no voltage, the power supply is bad or the socket does not have power (circuit breaker) change to a known working 120vac socket. Dobble check your laptop's power supply. If still bad, see if you can barrow one, or take laptop to repair shop and ask them to try their power supply. Then you will know to purchase a replacement.

My almost new under warrenty galaxy android 10.5 tablet: usb cable end will not fit into the port anyhmore..it used to..is the port hole broken?

Do you have an Android phone?
If so compare the charging ports.
There should be a small plastic bar in the port with connectors on it.

If this bar is missing or damaged, then it would need replacing.
Most phone repair shops can repair this but from past experience it will probably cost between £100 and £200 to repair.

It is NOT covered by warranty unless you have a very helpful staff member from where you bought it.
Samsung usually class this as user damage and will not repair for free.

See picture for the plastic section which may be damaged.

When a tablet has a mark like this ! on a battery what does it mean?

Simply, it means that either the battery has failed and must be replaced - OR the charger is not working properly and is not charging it. Simple test is, does the tablet run OK when plugged into the charger, but not when running on the battery? If so, it's the battery. If it won't run even on the charger, then it's most probable that the charger is broken and will need to be replaced - or the DC input socket on the Tablet has broken internally or come loose from the circuit board, which is a repair shop fix I'm afraid.

My screen is broken. How do I fix it?

In all warranties, broken screens are excluded. Unless you can prove it is induced by an error made during manufacturing.
Repair of a broken screen is dune by replacing the complete screen and sometimes not only the touch screen must be replaced, the display has to be replaced to.
The best way to go is, visit a phone repair shop, and ask them if it can be done and what it will cost. If it is complicated and it would take more than an hour, the repair could cost more then buying a complete new tablet.

Kindle won't hold the plug to charge anymore. I have tried differenct chargers, they don't work.

Once the internal connector of the tablet is broken (which is what you are describing), there is no hope but to find someone willing to replace or repair the connection. The device was not designed to be repaired and nobody has been specificly trained to do that repair except the fellow in China who works on the production line doing that exact task on production "fallouts". There may be an "old school" electronics technician somewhere who could do the job but very tough to find one. It will be cheaper and easier to buy a new tablet.

I'm sorry the charging circuit seems to have broken down. You need a new logic board. You should always try to replace a broken part yourself first. search model name plus "repair guide" on any search engine. There are other websites that sell all the replacement parts, one of the bigger ones is http://portatronics.com (646) 797 2838. Then for the repair itself you can venture to do it yourself, or better ask a friend who has done a similar repair before.

The charger is broken and i need another charger also the pieces of the charger is stuck where you are suppose to put the charger

You can charge your tablet through the USB port on your desktop computer. Just plug it in with the USB cable that came with your unit. It's slower charging but who cares?

Those pins are delicate. Be careful when inserting and removing.

The USB is designed to power on first and then the data is transferred.

Forget about taking it to a repair shop. The charges will be more than the tablet is worth and it's not likely they will have the part.
