It WORKS I just did not know Hot Keys Responsible for changing Screen Direction as the keyboard was Bumped Accidentallyy & not knowing what else to do I performed System Resore... Since it was an Accident That happened TWICE I thought obtaiining a manual (info on Hot Key Functions would be better than performing System Restore... If I could I would lock screen. I do not have the $%$$ to change out system, buy another etc & Just had a cervical fusion with fixation so my mobility is Restricted. A friend place my Desktop beside my recliner & I have keyboad & mouse in front of me on a tray. Thanks for your consideration Ray. I just have a SNAFU happening here as I bought this system but let my son use it, then I lost my son last New Years Eve 2013... I was left with EQ, no info, a mess, myself broken down Blah, Blah... Sometimes things are just not that simple

What on earth do you need a manual for? If it doesn't work then shove another one in. It needs no software and can be any make you want.

Some keys on laptop dont work

Generally, if the keyboard has one or more bad keys, it is a hardware failure of the keyboard and the resolution is to replace the keyboard. You can find keyboards on EBay (if system is out of warranty) and the service manual can be found on support.dell.com

Check to make sure the keyboard ribbon cable is installed the right way up and that the latch is secured.
if this is still not working, You may have a damaged motherboard and should warranty this laptop.

If you purchased it new, you should be able to get the keyboard replaced under warranty. Dell's come with a minimum 1-year warranty. Give them a call and tell them the issue with the spacebar.

We ran a typical Dell Inspiron 1525 battery of tests, including games, applications, and a couple other areas.
Time constraints limited the amount of testing we could get done before the NDA lift (and Dell Inspiron 510m Battery Dell Latitude D630 Battery

Water was spilled on the keyboard. Dryed out laptop but keyboard shorted out. Everything works fine but some keyboard characters don't type out. Can keyboard be replaced on this laptop?

You definitely need to replace the keyboard on the system. If your system still within warranty and you have Complete Care warranty from Dell this will be covered, if not you may need to pay for it or purchase a keyboard part.

I have a new Dell Inspiron laptop, windows7 and, randomly, keys do not register on the page especially in e mail.its not often its the same keys and none of them are actually sticking, just not connecting

Hi There,

If the laptop is new, it's still under warranty and you should simply call Dell and have them replace the keyboard. It's definitely not a software issue. Batches of parts which are mass produced are always going to have a few defective ones, and you have merely been unfortunate to get one of those; your keyboard.

Go online to Dell Support and find the Warranty link. When there, enter your Service Tag # (found on the bottom of your laptop on a slender label) and use their Chat service to get in a chat with a tech rep. They will advise you on your warranty type and what you need to do to have them replace the keyboard.

Although it's also possible to buy a replacement keyboard online at eBay and do it yourself from the online Service Manual for your machine (and really easy), you will void your warranty by doing so.

Best of luck.

Popped a key off my Dell Inspiron laptop keyboard by accident.

You should be able to just pop off another key from your keyboard using a flat screwdriver. Then just compare how that key looks and reassemble the plastic components and the key just snaps back on. Also you may want to check your warranty at support.dell.com under warranty status and enter your service tag. If you are under warranty dell will replace it. Also ebay dell keyboards are cheap to buy and easy to install just two screws and a simple cable. If you need more help let me know.

LOOSE LEFT CTRL AND SHIFT KEYS

Generally, the keys on a portable keyboard are non-repairable. The keyboard is a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) and if under warranty, Dell should send a replacement, If out of warranty, Ebay is a good source for a keyboard and they generally run about $20

Dell notebook keyboard malfunction

I suspect just as you suggested something was spilled on it. Other than loose keys laptop keyboards are generally not repairable. They are not that difficult to replace, but check the Service Manual before deciding to do it yourself.

Replacing dell 2200 keyboard

Here is the documentation for dell inspiron 2200. You should refer to the service manual. In any case be aware that changing a laptop keyboard generally is not an easy operation for a beginner.
