What external drive enclosure would support a seagate 4200.2 hard drive

Hi Larry

There are generally 2 types (sizes) of hard drive. 2.5 Inch & 3.5 inch. Any 3.5" HD enclosure these days should handle either size.
The preferred current connector on a HD is SATA (Serial ATA)This small connector on the HD is universal so it's easy to connect a drive. 3.5" HD is preferable for backups & archive as it is faster, more reliable and less prone to bumps. They run on 12v&5v
The Pocket type 2.5" run on 5v and are not as fast or secure.

My preferred Enclosure that I use is more of a Universal Dock.
Either drive can be plugged in at any time. This is great for allowing the use of several drives for different purposes. Eg
A Movies Drive. A Backup Drive. A Music Drive or a Bootable External OS in case of problems. Buy USB3 Port Interface where possible or FireWire as the backup speed is Faster
Drives not in use get wrapped in antistatic bag or tinfoil & kept in secure location.
I use Carbon Copy Cloner to make a Bootable copy of OSX.
Great program... used it for years. Demo is free and fully usable.

Hope this helps

Looks like the USB cable isnt' working anymore. What can I do to get my data off the drive or can I just get another cable?

Hi Colleen
Well, if it is the cable, then a replacement is simple.
Not sure how you could tell if it is the cable?
Can you feel the drive inside running or hear it?
Just remember.... if it is the "Enclosure" causing the problem (that is... the box it's inside)
then the drive can be taken out & put in another enclosure to recover the data.
Enclosures are available for 2.5" inch & 3.5" drives.
They are $20-50

If you find this Helpful... How about a tick? or a "Thanks"

See Here:
Search Results for enclosure at MacSales com
One of my Favorites is this one as you can plug any drive in 2.5 or 3.5 as you need it.
Eg. One for Movies, Another for Backups, One for Emergency Startup Etc

I have a sony 1652z amp & need to know the best way to wire 2 mtx 10'' blue thunder subs

in order to solve this problem you must figure out what type of enclosure gives you the sound you are looking for and take into account the area this enclosure will be placed in and does that combination allow you to efficiently run your subs without overpowering your components ( subs, amps, ect). there are many options on wiring your amp and depending on the options on your subs such as dual voice coils, you have a really good chance to get the sound you are looking for if you just do a little homework and make the most of your entire audio system. dont make the classic mistake and just toss your system together and start cranking up the power on your amp to get the sound you want because you could possibly loose your amp, subs, or worse like your cars electrical system. if you have to turn your amp past the three quarter mark, get a bigger amp because heat is going to be a big issue and sony amps will shut down into protect mode almost every time. get the specs for your equipment and see what options you have as far as bridged or single channel, how many ohms this amp can handle and different options to wire your subs such as series or parallel so that your amp is stable when pushing your subs and its not a drain on your battery every time you turn it on.

I need to put my hard drive into an enclosure but I cannot figure out if I need to switch it to a slave before adding it to another computer

i have done this alot for my customers and its really simple. if you look up your drive and get the jumper settings for it and set it to cable select or master in a one drive enclosure it will work well. i do not recommend putting it on slave because some enclosures will not recognize the drive, I do recommend having an enclosure with a fan on board and an external power switch. the reason it the fan will extend the life of the drive and the power switch eill allow you to power it on and off without having to flatten (power hot swap) the drive. Hot swap is ok but this is better than just unplugging the drive. removing the power from the drive keeps the drive in park until you re-power. as long as the drive is "parked" it is les likely to cause read/write sector errors.
If you have any problems let me know and please leave positive feedback for me. Jethro

I cant get my jl audio w6 10s to give off much bass with the jl audio 500/1 amp

here is a manual for your subwoofers:

use the wiring diagram for 1.5? (1.5ohm) with 2 speakers. the diagram for 3 speakers will not work, because it would bring the load down to 1 ohm, and the amp cannot go below 1.5 ohm.

to set up the amp:

under "preamp output section", on the "output mode" switch, select "amp filter"

to set up the levels: start with the amp gain pretty far down- with the input voltage on low for line level outputs from the deck, and on high for speaker outputs from the deck. now turn your cd deck as far up as it will go until it distorts, then turn the cd deck down to just where it stops distorting. now, you can start to turn up the gain on the amp.

on the filters, youll prolly want the cutoff filter around 100hz @ 24db slope. start with the infrasonic filters off, but, if you do get into them, try centering between 30 and 60hz on either, and, possibly dropping the cutoff filter to 80hz.

Speaker removal

Good day,
In your trunk there are 2 small amps. The first amp is connected to your car speakers. The second amp is connected to your subwoofer. Once you locate the subwoofer amp. Your subwoofer amp will be the amp close to the sub enclosure. Unplug the subwoofer from the amp. Your next step is to unscrew the 4 10mm bolts so that you can remove the sub enclosure. At this point you can now remove the enclosure. It will take a some time as it always seems to be up there pretty good. But once it starts to move it should come out with little work. I hope this helps with your removal of the subwoofer.

Drive case flashes

The first thing you need to do is figure out if it is the Hard Drive itself or the enclosure.
The best way to do that is remove it from the enclosure & test it either in a PC directly or in another enclosure. If it works, then you can test the enclosure by inserting another Hard Drive & testing it. This should tell you which component is bad.

Rockford sub squeaks

Hello markwasicki,

You did not specify what type of enclosure the subs are in or if they share the same airspace. But the sound you describe sounds suspiciously like the enclosure is at fault and not the sub itself.

Remove and reverse the subs in the box and test for the noise again. If the noise is still produced on the same side of the box, it's the enclosure. If the noise follows the sub, then you have a problem with that sub.

If the box is making the noise, and it's a ported box, you probably have "port noise". If it's a sealed enclosure, you could have either an air leak or flexing noise. In either case, repair the enclosure or put the subs in a new one. If the sub itself is making the noise, there probably isn't much you can do. Most likely some part of the voice coil assembly is touching where it should not.

Hope this helps.
