Why does saw spin slowly backwards when turned on. Old Elue flip saw

Your start windings are toast. If it has a capacitor start (a big lump stuck to the side of the motor) it might be bad.

sounds like a 3ph saw that is single phasing in the wrong direction..need some more details of your saw...

if its spining backwards the blade is up side down motors dont run backwards they run clock wise your blade should run clockwise to its possible they put your blade on backwards you will hgave to flip it put it back on

With the saw unplugged, turn the saw blade.
If it turns easily with no hangups I would guess its the field.
When mine went bad the blade went backwards very slowly.
I replaced only the field and not the armature and it's worked fine for over 2 yrs.

Right now I have it apart to change an armature bearing which was completely frozen up.

I had the same problem with the Bosch 4000.
Changed the field for a new one...end of problem

This happens with Bosch saws once in a while. The field coil in the motor short circuits. This causes the saw to run very slowly or sometimes run backwards. I sounds like yours has this problem. Unfortunatly the only way to repair the motor is to replace the field coil. This is a fairly involved repair and you might benifit from taking to a power tool service center.

Replace the field coil. I'm going to bet its a Model 4000. I have done about 100 of these saws in the last couple of years and my customers always complain of the same problem, "the saw was running backwards"

Change the armature back bearing while you have it apart, they always seize eventually.

If the motor is 3 phase (which it may be if it is 2 HP) , it will run backwards if 2 of the wires are traded position. You may have changed the wires in the plug if you replaced a plug.

sounds like you may have jamed the linkage. youll have to look underneath to see. back in hunting season i had a tire flip a stick into the linkage of my F-150. thought i had broke some thing till i look under and saw the stick. whew what a relief. when shifting in and out of 4x4 always put tranny in neutral and set parking brake. when shifting out you can move backwards slowly and out shift easier. gl

I saw this happen once and you know what it was? A loose connection!. I pushed in the timer's molex block and it worked! It musta vibrated out the socket somehow. You must flip up the console to access the controls.
