typing error in original message. Should read " will not start up with the USB cable connected to the computer

I have the same problem and I just keep the printer USB disconnected until I start the computer. All else works fine

  • Anonymous Sep 09, 2008

Exactly the same problem - worked fine till recently then suddenly developed this fault - I just unplug the printer before re-booting otherwise the pc freezes on the motherboard screen and I have to turn it off at the mains and start again. I'll try checking the bios setup and see if I can rectify the problem there. Lexmark tech help say this is a usb grounding problem but I don't have this problem with other usb connected hardware.

I have been using the Lexmark X4570 all in one printer with desktop pc & windows xp professional and the same problem developed (had to disconnect printer usb cable to boot up). I removed the bios options to boot from removable drives and also disabled the A (floppy) drive (I don't have one). The pc now boots up with the printer connected but still continues to freeze on the Asus motherboard screen if I leave a memory card in the printer's card reader. I suppose this is only half a solution but maybe someone out there has some other ideas. I don't have this problem if I leave other usb devices plugged in (eg keyboard, portable hard drives, camera etc.)

Disable booting from USB in the BIOS or check your BIOS manufacturer for an update. Some PCs attempt to boot from the card reader in the lexmark printer causing the problem.

Or just connect the printers USB cable after booting your computer.

A friend has a 2.0 Usb port next to him and connects it there after boot.

Attention Windows Vista Users
If you have installed your printer on your PC using an original Lexmark Driver CD that came with your product and you are experiencing problems when printing, you may have installed the Windows XP driver.

Follow these steps to resolve:
· Disconnect your USB cable from your printer.
· Uninstall all Lexmark printer drivers on your PC.
· Download the correct Vista driver for your model.
· Install the driver on your PC.

Important - Do not reconnect the USB cable until the install software prompts the question of how the printer is connected.

Also, You do have the new VISTA software for your Lexmark, right.

Dell xps 420 computer will no start blinking amber light no diagnostics lights working

If the power light is blinking amber, the computer is receiving electrical power, but an internal power problem might exist.
Ensure that the voltage selection switch is set to match the AC power at your location, if applicable.
Ensure that the processor power cable is securely connected to the system board.
This can be caused bya defective power supply or a defective motherboard. Just to make sure thatnothing else is causing the problem, remove any PCI cards like modem, videocard, sound card, etc... Remove the memory modules and disconnect cables toCD/DVD drives. Look at the USB ports to see if any are damaged.

I somehow uninstalled the Dell Imaging Toolbox for my V305 printer. How do I get it back?

I cannot find a separate software download for the Imaging Toolbox. I can only assume it comes with the driver itself when installed.

If you have the disk for the printer, uninstall the printer software you have already installed using the Add/Remove Programs from the Control Panel. Restart your computer and look under the Start>Printers and Faxes and make sure it is not listed.

disconnect the USB cable from either the computer or printer and insert your disk and install as you did originally. Connect the USB cable when prompted. This should reinstall the driver and Imaging Toolbox.

If you do not have the disk, you can download the software from the Dell website at:

Dell V305/305w Driver

Download the software to your desktop. Uninstall the previous software...reboot...then double-click the file on your desktop.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions, just use the Comment link.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I can print from my Dell 926 all in one, but it wont scan

Try removing your 926 icon in Printers and Faxes, disconnect the USB cable, restart your computer, reconnect the USB cable, see the 926 and install the driver again. If scan has never worked, you probably need a different driver.

    Hope this helps.

Power off the printer and disconnect the USB (Parallel ?) cable from the printer to the PC. Reconnect the cable. Restart your PC.

If that doesn't work ... go to Start - Printers and Faxes and delete the Dell Photo 926 icon. Then, power off the printer and disconnect the cable from the PC. Power on the PC and log in. Reconnect the cable and see if the printer is found. If so, install the Photo 926 printer driver. If the printer is not found, you have a printer cable or printer hardware problem. Good luck.

    Computer won't recognize printer

We know it isn't the printer or the USB cable. We know it isn't the software. You are running Windows XP on both the desktop and laptop, correct? On your desktop, you go to 'Start''Settings''Printers' and is the printer there ?? Try this; go to 'Start' 'Settings''Control Panel'. Double click the 'System' icon. Click on tab 'Hardware', click on 'Device Manager'. Do you see a yellow (!) on any Universal Serial Bus Controller. If not, were good. Check all USB ports with a USB mouse or device to make sure they're active.
