are u talking about a belt drive and not a direct drive? you might have to remove from the bottom the mode shifter, the splutch assembly and the its fairly basic when u look at ir and see which screws need removing. some are hex screws, but u will have to remove the tub nut from the top side inside as well first after pulling out the agitator

Whirlpool Front load washer - wfw9400sw01. Sounds very loud during the spin cycle. Suspect a bearing issue. I have pulled the back plate off. Pulley, belt, shocks and motor all appear to be fine. What...

A loud rumble noise during the spin cycle is a good indication that the bearings have failed. The bearings are located in the rear outer tub. See link http://www.appliancepartspros.com/part_details.aspx?part_id=4426951 There are actually two bearings an inner and an outer bearing plus a seal. Water must have leaked past the seal causing the inner bearings to corrode. Once they start to rust, it just gets louder and louder. You are correct that Whirlpool does not sell the bearings and seal separately, but you must buy a new rear outer tub currently the price is over $400.

I had it happen to a different brand of front load washer and was faced to either, replace the rear outer tub, junk it or figure out how to replace the seal and bearing. I opted for the last and did some research on finding replacement bearings and seals. I had to tear the washer apart to get the bearings, then pound out the old ones to replace with new ones. It been working find for the last 2.5 year so far.

I found a website that might help you locate bearings and seals for your machine. http://www.hometask.com/washerrepair.aspx The site has a video on how to tear down your machine and shows you how to remove and replace the bearings. He might have the ones that you need on his site. Hope this helps you.

You have a Tub Seal leak for sure. Did your Clutch Pulley use the upper bearing ring? If you don’t have any Outer Tub bearing noise you may get around replacing the Outer Tub Bearings.

Take a look at these links and see if they will help. Getting the Spinner Assembly removed without breaking one off requires care. Soak in Liquid Wrench or PB Blaster. Even after doing that I broke one off. I had the bolt hole drilled out and Stainless Steel Helicoil inserted in.

Here is the process for a Series 10 machine I did a tub seal replacement on. If you follow my post I’m a DIY’er with basic mech. skill sets. I’m a Electronic Technician by training and and learned craft skills. I feel you can do this if you felt OK with my Clutch Maintenance/Replacement post.

I would replace both the Tub seal and the Tranny O ring seal.

I used an air impact tool to remove the Spinner Bolts and the 1.75” Spinner Nut. You might be able to get away from using the Spinner Nut removal tool if you lock the Spinner Assembly as shown on page 47 in the SM.

See this post for links on Tub Seal and Outer Tub bearing replacement.

Good luck and I feel you can do this. I’m no expert but will try to help you……..Rich

Water keeps getting into my bearing.

I feel you have a Tub Seal leak.

Did you replace the Clutch Pulley or a repair service?

You are talking about the Clutch Pulley One-Way Roller Clutch bearing in the white bearring plate correct? The First two digits of your serial number are 12 thru 17. What are the first two digits of your serial number?

To replace the Tub Seal you need to remove the spinner assembly. That means you have to remove the outer tub. A bigger job but several on this forum have completed it including myself two weeks ago on a Series 10 FAV6800A.

I will point you to a link most recently where a form member replaced Outer tub bearings on his Series 15. If your wash basket spins up to 850 rpm with no Outer Tub bearing noise I would just do a tub seal replacement this round.

You would need the Tub seal see Sears Parts Direct. I would also pick up the Tranny O-ring seal (series 10) .

Some links on Outer Tub Bearing replacement.

If you replace the tub seal make sure you remove this sleeve that will more than likely stay on the Spinner Support when you remove. See Page 49 of the Service Manual. Here is a real world pic of the sleeve on the Spinner Assembly.

Kenmore 80 Series washer leaves brown grease marks

Remove the agitator and check the shaft seal underneath the plastic drive block at the top of the shaft. Move the shaft in different directions to check the condition of the top bearing. If none or very slight, replace the seal at the top of the shaft supporting post. Clean any grease that is outside of the seal when you are done. Be sure to not damage the seal surface on the shaft when removing/replacing the seal and pre-grease the new seal's inner lip before installing.

How to change my front differential seal and bearing ? passenger side. I bought a new wheel bearing because of a humming sound on passenger side and doing so saw leaking seal and maybe the humming was...

That will be a Huge job. The whole front diff must come out of the car and the case will need to be taken apart to even gain acess to the carrier side bearings.
The hub bearing is where the wheel bolts up is that maybe what you are talking about?
Also the axle seal isn't that bad to do you need to remove the cv shaft then it's just a simple remove the seal and install the new one.
But all of these jobs will be big ones.
