Doubtful... You'll need to use a OS Install disc to repair System/Registry files. If you have the System Install Disc, put it in your optical drive while your PC is already up and running. When the Auto-Run prompts, allow it to run, but rather than starting a fresh install, select the "Repair" option... It should then scan your system & settings and replace any missing or broken files. However, if your system can't start at all, place the OS Install disc into your optical drive while it has power then shut down your system. Wait 10 seconds and restart. Boot from the CD and then select the "Repair" option as mentioned.
Good Luck on fixing your system :-D

Well if all other options were unsuccessful, the only option that you really have left is a completely fresh install after reformatting your local disk C:/... I know that option sucks, that's why it's a last resort but after it's said & done, your system should be like new again. Then you'll have to go through the whole system update which will require some time and frustration, but it's all that I can really recommend at this point. :-/ I personally have never encountered a situation like what you have before you.. Best of Luck

It is a puzzlement! I keep thinking that I am missing something but others say I am not.MSN no longer supports Vista so SP's and updates probably noy available. Rather than spend $ on 8 yr old PC I bought a refurb Dell . BUT I need to get my pix off Vista HD. Any suggestions? Would getting a HD Encloser to use as an external work w/old HD? There are soo many I know not what to buy.

Before you buy anything, open both your refurbished Dell & your old PC... Check your HDD connections. If both are eSATA, just pull the drive from your old PC and install it into your new one... Before you access your old drive though, I'd recommend running a virus scan on it to extract any potentially harmful contaminates. You wouldn't want to infect your new system with whatever may have crashed your old one. If the connections are not the same however, I can recommend you the appropriate hardware that you'll need to get the job done.

Here is an example of the difference between (1) IDE and (2) eSata connections in case you're not sure as to what you've got... (These are 2.25 laptop HDDs but 3.25 PC HDDs are similar by comarison)

Hi J: I REALLY appreciate your mentoring me. My 'bride' of 57 years and I are in the 'four scrore plus' club but even with over 80 years of learning stuff, I know that 5th grader knows far more than we. The refurb Dell Optip[lex 980 came but w/o the OS in it. They are mailing me a install disc. They e-mailed me the driver downloads. I have to put these on a flash drive and install them after I install the OS from the disc. I am not a happy camper right now. At least the Dell Customer Service has been accessable. I have never done any of this before. I really don't want to put anything into the 980. I will probably donate the 410 to Senior Net but first I will remove the HD from it I have been looking at some tutorials on how to open the caase and remove the HD...Then I will need something to use to get to my pix on that 410 HD. That's why I thought a USB HD Enclosure was the way to go. But first things first, I have to get the 980 going. I did notice that the back of it has a 1SATA connection..not so with the410. To be continued. If it is easier to use e-mail . I'm apro2tvl@yahoo.com

There are many reasons for experiencing a large selection of computer error messages; if your pc has displayed a runtime error 21 in recent days, don't despair. Understand that most computer problems can be readily straightened out even if you happen to be a beginner. Keep reading this quick report and i'll show you a convenient and successful way to solve this annoying problem with errors.
But first, it is important that you find out the root of these problems. Very commonly in cases like this, your windows registry comes into play - this is the location where windows monitors what takes place on your pc. It maintains a database of your software and hardware installations, and additionally, the links to files that run these applications. Quite often, a fragmented link or corrupted registry can be the reason for a runtime error 21 and an assortment of other issues, which can include slow response, lock-ups, and .dll errors.

Other reasons for having runtime errors include the incorrect loading or unloading of software, the incompatibility of various software applications (when there are many programs installed on your computer), infections with viruses and spyware, and other. To sum up, any or all of these can lead to broken or missing links in your windows registry, thus leading your windows to display all of those inconvenient error alerts, and sometimes more alarming problems.

There are many methods you can use to solve these problems; the thing is that not always do you know which application(s) may be corrupted, or which particular corrupted registry record(s) might be at the root of the error message. In that case, and especially if you are not a computer expert, there are two courses of action: hire a specialist (this is the expensive way to go), or download a professional registry cleaning software.

A registry repair tool is a program which instantly scours your pc and reveals an assortment of computer errors which commonly appear; this useful tool goes beyond just finding these irregularities, it quickly works to fix them and improves the speed and functioning of your pc. Anytime your computer comes up with a runtime error 21, it is advisable to install one of these utilities; the bulk of them permit free pc scans and a certain number repairs at no cost. Now's your chance to eliminate this error in just a few clicks.

Some of the start up files have been corrupted or are missing. Start up from the OSX system disc and them run Disc Utilities from the installer toolbar. Check the hard drive for errors. Repair any errors if they are found. If it's not possible for Disc First Aid to repair the hard drive you will need to replace the drive and re-install OSX.
