If the button in question is on the top left of the control panel, this is for Automatic Convection Bake. This is the control panel picture, http://www.youserguide.com/wiki/Whirlpool_Use_and_Care_Guide_-_9782476-011 ; the word Convection is below the top pair of buttons with Auto to the left. Set the oven temperature to the regular setting for your food. The oven will reduce the temperature to the appropriate temperature for baking with the convection fan running. You do need to check the food more frequently. See http://www.youserguide.com/wiki/Whirlpool_Use_and_Care_Guide_-_9782476-016 .
The Keypad (membrane) switches seem to be malfunctioning, this is very common on ovens these days especially if the unit has been self cleaned often. If you replace the membrane switch the unit should have all its functions again.
It generally is the IR Element that has gone bad. Look for burned wiring where the IR Element enters the oven cavity. Check for continuity through the IR Element.
1. Check that the blower motor is moving air. o Blower motor is not moving air: Check blower motor assembly and verify motor is stalled. Unplug oven and correct obstruction or replace motor. (For access to motor shaft, remove top panel.) o Blower motor is moving air: Verify high-limit thermostat is not tripped. See the high-limit thermostat information below. High-Limit Thermostat: o Thermostat tripped: Reset and determine why the thermostat tripped (See Figure 38, Item 114). Look for excess build up of grease inside the oven or any other source for a fire. o Thermostat is not tripped: Check main convection heater.
1. Convection heater is defective: Unplug oven and replace the convection heater and verify the K4 SSR (Figure 37) is not shorted across output.
2. Convection heater OK: Check the K4 SSR. o K4 defective: Unplug oven and replace. o K4 OK: Unplug oven and verify all wiring. Verify P1 voltage on I/O board is 5.0VDC (+/- 0.02) -
There is a fan for cooling down whole oven, it can turn on and off during the regular bake or broil cycle to cool down the oven on the outside. It's controlled by its own thermostat, so it will even stay on for awhile when you turn the bake off.
If not, then it should not be a Concern. More often this could be Thermal Fuse on the Back of the Unit ( On Most Models ) will stop the Broil and Bake from Turning ON. You would just start a bake cycle and the temperature will sit at 100 and something degrees and never raise.appliance.
ensure that your convection fan is turning
a hum on this model usualy means that the convection motor can seize up a bit
sometimes all you need to do is redjust the fan blade
I am by no means an expert, but I believe the only thing differenty in a convection oven vs a regular oven is that there is a fan to conduct the heat quicker and more evenly. It has to do with heat tranfer rate. I can't imagine why aluminum foil would cause any problem.
this could be due to more than one cause
selector switch faulty
elements faulty. however this would mean both elements gone - there is one at the top and one at the bottom
also worth while looking at the wiring to the convection elements.
does the thermostat neon come on when convection is selected?
