It is too far retarded, and needs advancing a couple of thou.

Hi When you cleaned the muffler out did you also clean the carbon out of the port on the cylinder as this can be blocked as well. Also you will have to retune the carby, There should be 2 screws 1 for low speed marked l on the carby body and 1 marked h for high speed to start with they should be set at 1 & 1/2 turns out from closed the low speed you set at an idle and the high speed you set at full throttle. Hope this helps.

you could have a frayed throttle cable or the screws in the handle halves are too tight.

Check first for pull rope issue by pulling the side cover and inspecting. If not that it may be something more serious like seized piston.

Stihl FS85 Weedeater


I suspect carb. trouble. Is the compression OK? Look at the spark plug after trying to start it. If it is wet, you are getting too much fuel. The white smoke indicates that. You may need to overhaul the carb.
Go on the Stihl site and customer service for information.
