Over door is locked and will not open.

  • lanzo610 Nov 22, 2007

I ran the self cleaning mode with no problem and now the self cleaning indicator light stays on and the oven will not come on. The door lock functions properly.

Oven believes the door is locked, while it is not. Unable to start the oven, unless I use oven clean.

Our range has the "locked' blinking. When I try to run self-cleaning it is saying Door open? Ugh!

door is locked but it is opened it won't close and light is on

  • dwright Dec 23, 2007

I tried to clean the oven and the oven locked light came so it looked like everything was working. Then the cleaning cycle stopped (after less than a minute) and the locked light stayed on. Now, the locked light is on, the oven light is on and I can't work the oven - and I have nine people coming for dinner tomorrow! Help!

I had the same problem, started to do self cleaning but cancelled it. Opened thedoor and then "locked" started blinking. I thought maybe I can just wait it out since I just used the oven but no luck. But what happened was that when I was pulling the oven out, the over door unhinged a little and so it seems that when you pull on the oven door, the door lifts up! So, I lifted up the door and just snapped it back on top of the locker/hook. It was still blinking but when I re-tried the self clean - viola! It took a few seconds but it locked the door and started the self cleaning process- awesome.

Try this: turn off the circuit breaker to the oven. You are looking for a pair of breakers generally rated 40 amperes or more. Turn them off, wait a minute and turn them on. If that doesn't do it, then there may be a circuit board issue.

It often works to unplug the range for a few minutes to reset the electronics. Try it first and tell me if that works.

Most of these oven automatically locked the doors only when you run these through automatic cleaning.

How do I set the oven to self clean

The oven door must be closed and all controls set correctly for the cycle to work properly. After a Clean Cycle You may notice some white ash in the oven. Wipe it up with a damp cloth after the oven cools. If white spots remain, remove them with a soap- filled scouring pad and rinse thoroughly with a vinegar and water mixture. These deposits are usually a salt residue that cannot be removed by the clean cycle. If the oven is not clean after one clean cycle, repeat the cycle.
You cannot set the oven for cooking until
the oven is cool enough for the door to unlock.
While the oven is self-cleaning, you can
touch the TIMER/CLOCK pad to display the time of day.
To return to the clean
countdown, touch the COOKING TIME pad.
If the shelves become hard to slide,
apply a small amount of vegetable oil or cooking oil to a paper towel and wipe the edges of the oven shelves with the paper towel.

Using the self-cleaning oven.

How to Delay the Start of Cleaning

Make sure the clock shows the correct time of day. If your model has a latch, latch the door. Touch the SELF CLEAN pad. Using the + or or the number pads, enter the desired clean time. Touch the DELAY START pad. The earliest start time you can set will appear in the display. Using the + or or the number pads, enter the time of day you want the clean cycle to start. Touch the START pad. On models without a door latch, the door locks automatically. The display will show the start time. It will not be possible to open the oven door until the temperature drops below the lock temperature and the LOCKED DOOR light goes off. The oven shuts off automatically when the clean cycle is complete. When the LOCKED DOOR light is off, slide the latch handle to the left as far as it will go and open the door. If your range does not have a latch, the door will unlock automatically. n The words LOCK DOOR will flash and the oven control will signal if you set the clean cycle and forget to close the oven door or forget to latch the door on models with a latch. n To stop a clean cycle, touch the CLEAR/OFF pad. When the LOCKED DOOR light goes off indicating the oven has cooled below the locking temperature, unlatch the door (on models with a latch) and open the door.

Ge xl44 after self clean cycle the door won't open and the display says "locked door" flashing.

Unplug the unit or shut off the circuit breaker for 5 minutes. Plug the unit back in or turn on the circuit breaker. Set the clock and gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
or
Set the self-clean cycle again and only allow it to work for 15 minutes. Cancel the self-clean cycle and allow the oven to cool. Gently try moving the door lock lever (is so equipped) or opening the door.
If these procedures fail to correct the condition, the lock must usually be accessed and moved manually to open the door.
Some model ovens require the oven door to be manually unlatched before the controls are returned to the OFF position or else the door may not be able to be unlocked. Check the owner's manual for proper operating procedures.
