I can't log into my DSL router. It's a Comtrend Nexuslink 5631. I've tried all the default logins.
I have a DSL router from Consolidated Communications. I'm trying to log into it to change the encryption on my wireless network. I'm on my laptop connected via a LAN cable. I've tried going to 192.168.1.1 and log in with these usernames and passwords to no avail:
Nothing seems to work. I'm wondering if I can reset the router without losing my ISP settings. Suggestions?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. goodluck!

Check on the router itself. Some ISPs have a pre-determined WPA password encoded into the router when delivered to the customer. It may be on a label affixed to the unit. Otherwise, you may have to log into the router itself (if your ISP allows this) and change the password to something you can then use for all your devices.
The default login to the router is ADMIN and the password is blank. If yo are looking for the wireless SSID and password, that should be listed (after logging ton the router) under the wireless section.
the comtrend router password has nothing to do with the PC
you can reset the router and then use the default username and password - ASSUMING you already tried the username and password and it did not let you log into the router setup screen
theres a few routers starting CT507 (1 , 1E etc )
see the download page here for a user manual
Ok I am goin to make some assumptions here, you have dial up service right? first you need to get DSL which allows you to use your Internet and phone at the same time on the same line. The other choice is to get cable modem service which frees up your telephone line because your internet service will be coming over your cable connection.
Once you have DSL or cable modem you will need to connect and configure your router. plug the ethernet cable from your Cable modem or DSL Modem into your Router's WAN port the plug your PC into the Router's LAN port. Your PC should pull an IP address using the DHCP protocol. You can check this by opening up a cmd prompt window in Windows and typing in the command ipconfig and pressing the enter key.
Once you have your ipaddress (which should be 192.168.1.xxx xxx = some number between 2 and 254) try to ping the gateway address by typing in ping 192.168.1.1 and hitting the enter key.
you should get 4 ping return indications.
Once this happens log into your router via the default gateway IP address (192.168.1.1) from your web browser by using the default login and password (these default settings should be in your documentation but the log in is admin or leave the box blank, and the password is admin)
once you are logged in set your WANconnectivity for DHCP (cable modem) or PPPOE (DSL). then for DSL put in your login and password given to your by your DSL provided, for cable modem just select the save button (for both) and the the router should pull a WAN side IP address. check this by looking at your router's WAN settings.
once you have don this you should be able to connect to the Internet.
