Re: picture

Im looking into the same situation, Mine however only happens when i use the component cables. It worked for a while though and then quit on me. Nintendo seems to think it is a problem with early wiis. Try this link it may help.

Conecting Wii to a Phillips lcd tv. rwy cords. but the picture is in black & white ?? i have sound. tried different connections eg: red to green conections & the only one that works is still black...

it sounds like you may be trying to plug a standard composit video cable (yellow) into a component video input (red, green, and blue)
these are actually two different connections. Most LCD tv's will have both options (sometimes there in weird different spots on the tv tho) if you don't have a standard RGB (red, white, and yellow composite video input) then you may need to purchase a component cable either at a local store or you can get one for $5 on Ebay
hope it helps!
~good luck!

I have just purchased a used Wii system and every thing works fine except that it is in black and white help.

Hi Anne,

It could be due to the wii's current video settings, the previous owner would have had a TV that ran on different viewing options. The black and white picture is caused by having the Wii settings output at PAL 60Hz and the TV input at PAL 50Hz or vice versa (or NTSC). Try going to the wii settings menu and try a couple of different video settings until the colour comes :). If this does not work can you please post what connection you are using for ex. AV or composite.

Connect ps3 to a non HD tv and picture only black and white?

Are you connecting it to a new SD tv after having been connected to an HD set? You can force the system to reset the video resolution settings by pressing and holding the On/Off button after the system has already turned on. I believe it is ~5-10sec. You will hear another beep after the initial startup beep. This will reset video setting to default and go through the resolution setup wizard again.

However, it is also possible that you are trying to connect a component cable to a composite tv. They are VERY different signals even though the cables fit interchangeably. If you use the Green component cable for video on a composite tv you will only see a grayscale image of the picture. This is most likely your issue. If this is the case you will need to buy a composite cable for the PS3 (the PS2 one is the exact same as the PS3 one.)

FYI Component cable has Red, Green, & Blue cables. Composite has Yellow (Video), White (Left Audio), Red (Right Audio). Both are normal RCA type plugs and will fit in each others plugs, but the signals are VERY different.

Picture is in black and white, no color

You probably don't have something hooked up right or connected all the way. If you are using component video cables, make sure that all of the different plugs are plugged into the matching socket on your TV. Also, make sure you have your TV on the right channel (3 or 4) if that's how you have it setup.
Otherwise, you will want to look at the input settings on your TV and make sure you are receiving the correct input, and if you have your Wii plugged into a VCR instead of directly to your TV, try hooking it up directly to see if it works.
If that doesn't work, try using a different TV - especially if it's a TV you know works in color with a Wii. If it is still in black and white, you might need to take it back to the store and exchange it for a new one.

How to set up a UK Wii for use in the US

This is because UK wii's use a PAL signal for video display. If your TV does not support the signal, it's always going to be black and white. You might need to try a different TV.

Nintendo and white picture

In order to play a different region game on a different region TV (example playing a PAL game on a NTSC tv) your tv needs to be automatic enabled. Some tv's have an option on the remote to change the input signal to PAL NTSC or SECAM. If your tv does not have that then there is literally nothing you can do apart from get a different tv with this feature.

TV Screen is Black and White when using Wii

Nintendo say that black & White screen is often because you need to replace the standard 3 pin lead with a 5 pin component lead for HDTVs. Have you tried this?

Picture is in black and white, not in color

have you noticed the wire that links into the back of you t.v, follow it down to find a little box with a switch, have you stried switching it, the problem could be the wire that plugs into the television, if the above doesnt work see if you can find onother, such as a friend, if so try theirs out and see if there is a difference
