Why won't the fuel gauge work?


The power wire from the sending unit runs to the gauge. Since it is showing 3/4 all the time. It is a break in the wire or really high resistance. I would check resistance of the ground wire first. If it is good(less than 5.0 ohms), I would replace the power wire from the pump to the gauge. I assume the gauge goes to empty with the key off. If not the gauge is bad.

Gas gauge staying at empty when tank is full


Spencer, Check all fuses ,plugs and grounding at the tank.The sending unit module, inside the GM's gas tanks were notorious for going bad in this err, when you changed it did you use a quality part? Also the fuel pump sending unit plug/wire harnesses were known issues, so much that replacement pumps would often come with replacement plug to splice into existing harness. Check the attached links,instruction and guides on how to trouble shoot fuel gauge/sending unit, Good luck

It is tripping motor starting on load and tripping


If the pump turns easily by hand and trips breaker, most likely the start capacitor is weak or bad. If the pump is hard to turn by hand then problem is most likely the in-tank check valve is leaking pressure back to the pump causing the motor to overload. If the pump turns easily by hand and the check valve is good and capacitors are good, then use amp gauge to verify overload, if amp gauge shows normal amp draw then most likely weak reset button. Need wiring diagram with breakdown of colored wiring on fuel pump motor on 1999 mitsubishi galant ES, 4 cyl


the two thick wires are for the pump and the other two for the fuel gauge ,check for voltage at the pump if no voltage then follow the wires back to see if their is a connection somewhere ,also check the earth connection if no power in the two wires ,ie one probe onto the earth and the other to a suitable ground on the bodywork ,then continuety

Is there power to the fuel pump circuit of the relay? if so is it getting out the fuel pump side of the relay?

You can try a new oil pump, but in my 30 plus years 99 out of 100 your bearings are gone! you would have to pull the oil pan to do oil pump so i would pull 2 or3 main crank caps and check bearings if badly scrached or copper spots showing through aliumun coating there is your low oil press. probiem.you will need a new motor sorry. this sounds like a supply power problem. The motor is not getting enough power. Check the line to see how many amps you're getting. The motor will tell you how many amps you need on the data plate. When a motor heats up and trips it's internal high limit, it's usually due to insufficient supply power. Heat is a byproduct of inefficiency. Also, if this is running on 220v, make sure both legs of 110 have power. Sometimes motors can attempt to run even though half the volts are missing.

Fuel guage on my 2006 chevy trailblazer stopped working and now it doesn't work right it fluxuates even when the tank is all the way full


possible fuel gauge malfunction but its a chevy.

over the past year chevrolet fuel pump failure has increased by over 900% the fuel level sending unit is incorperated in the fuel pump module,

these fuel pumps do not like fuel additives nor do they tolerate E85 fuels.

you will need to replace your fuel pump assembly, try to locate a carter brand pump they are very reliable.

as far as replacement.
just open the fuel filler door remove the two torx screws and one push pin from the fuel filler neck, go under the truck at the back of the bed on the frame cross bar and unplug the bed plug, remove the 8 bolts that attatche the bed to the frame and the one ground wire under the bed by the fuel filler neck. get a budy and lift the bed off of the frame, now you can access the top of the fuel tank for the pump replacement. dont get discouraged it is a easy fix, i can do these in under an hour.
