Unplug the data and power cables from the new hard drive and try to start the computer and see if it runs the BIOS. If you are able to get into the BIOS, and have your Windows or other operating system install disk, you may also be able to get into the boot menu of the BIOS and try booting from a CD. That will tell you if the rest of the computer hardware is generally working. If you get into the BIOS with the hard drive disconnected, then try rebooting with first the hard drive power cable connected and then with power and data connected. If the computer boots into BIOS with just the power cable connected, but not the data cable, you could have either a bad data cable, or the wrong data cable for your laptop. If it won't boot with the power cable only connected, you likely have a bad hard drive.

If you shure that bios worked before...than its no chance that the hard drive is broken..2:load without bios without hard drive first..and if go into change bios default values standard..then restart cmo battery..put the hard drive in..restart it several times..and than if you got into than you must no how to create partitions...and read your manual for lenovo there is max value for hard drives

You have to recover your MBR looks like, but first you need to remove the hard drive and see if it will boot without the HDD installed then get back to me ok. Also sounds like the BIOS may have failed if it wont boot without the HDD installed. But first things first.

My Lenovo mouse won't work. It connects and registers but won't move? Is there any help?

Hello,

Try booting to safe mode and check if your mouse works inside safe mode.

Restart the computer and tap F8 until you see the options to boot to safe mode. Use the arrow keys to highlight either safe mode or safe mode with networking. Hit enter.

Once you are inside safe mode, check if your mouse works. If it works, then you just need to update the mouse driver. You can use RadarSync to search and install the update into your computer. You better use Safe Mode with Networking because RadarSync needs the internet or even the manual updating process needs an internet connection.

I hope this helps!

My dell inspiron 560 wont recognize any disc it acts like nothings in it how do i fix it?

Check Device Manager in Safe Mode by pressing F8 during boot. Right click My Computer > Manage. Select Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices. Now delete all DVD/CD-ROMs and reboot. Windows will say "New Hardware Found" and install. Check BIOS by pressing F key (correct F key is noted during boot) and make sure BIOS see's the Optical Drive.

Hello, im having trouble with my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-8IPE775-G) im trying to re-install Windows XP on a brand new HDD and it can see it in Bios (set 1st boot to CD 2nd HDD) but won't let me...

Owners manual can be found here : http://www.retrevo.com/support/Gigabyte-GA-8IPE775-G-manual/id/23285bh940/t/2/
As to the boot process, its been my experience that if you can actually get into bios, then there isn't any problem with it. Problems usualy arise becoase of a setting chianged inside bios. Have you tried resetting bios to defaults to see if that changes anything?
BTW, have you formatted the new harddrive? Re-install works a heck of a lot better with a properly formatted harddrive.
Hope that helps.

Welcome to Fixya

Make sure first that there are no devices plug in to the usb when you boot up the computer. Check if the harddrive is being detected by the computer. Press F2 to go to BIOS menu and see if the computer can detect you harddrive. It should be under the main menu and will say below harddrive. It should give you infromation of the harddrive. If there is no information of the harddrive then the problem there is the harddrive already.

Please reply to this email for any update.

Thank you for using Fixya!

I updated the bios and now it will not boot up

There is NO real reason why you cannot reflash your bios back to the way it was.... You simply need to find out what type your, bios is... and there are many programs that will address your BIOS and re-flash it. This is unless your BIOS is so broken that the machine will NOT even read a DVD memory stick or driver at all. What happens if you try again?
Some links below... all about it.

If you have the OEM Lenovo XP disc are you have to do is insert and follow the instruction. If you are using off the shelf software, then switch the BIOS SATA to compatibility mode, and boot from your CD drive with the disc in it, and format the harddrive followed by installing the software.( like Windows XP or the Vista)

I put new harddrive in lenovo x60 while ruuning setting for xp installation .set up loading file then setup is starting window i receive following messege stop : 0x0000007B

I think 7b stopcode is hardware failure. Which means your hard drive is bad.

First I would try getting into your BIOS,(pressing F2 or DELETE or something upon turning your PC on) and finding a setting that says "SATA operation".... i think. You are looking for something that gives you 2 choices... either 'AHCI' or 'ATA'. It may not be called SATA operation, but it will definitely say 'AHCI' and 'ATA' as the two choices. Move the selection to whatever one it is not set on. Then try booting normally, or even re-installing again.

Try that BIOS setting first, that may be the only issue.

Good Luck.
