You can't. It's just one of those things. If the light is too bright you won't be able to see the screen, sorry.

If you've ever seen a kindle paperwhite they are able to be read in any light, unfortunately you can't get that technology, nor would you want it in laptops

My pictures have lines through them

If your images have lines through them and you were shooting I full sun and facing the sun with your subject in front then this is known as back lighting and you need to change your angle at which you shoot your pictures try putting the sun over one of your shoulders so that your subjects are lit by the sun. If suddenly all of your pictures are showing a blue line in the same place then it could be a little more serious. It might be that your screen on your camera is going or gone bad and needs to be replaced from the manufacturer or it could be the sensor/processor of the camera has gone bad in which case the camera will unfortunately make a rather expensive paper weight. These are my best informed thoughts and I currently work at a camera shop. If you purchased the camera within the last year then it may still be under warranty. If not contact Kodak or the store where you purchased it and proceed from there.

How can I stop the sun shining into myt.v. in the conservatory?

1) try moving the furniture around so that the screen has its back to where the sun comes in
2) fit blinds or pin a sheet up on the windows to stop the light coming in.
3) create a make shift sun block, out of a piece of card which you could tape to the side of the screen
Good Luck! Thumps Up Please!

My screen has lost brightness

Sounds like your Back-light Bulb malfunctioning.

You may need to replace the Back-light, and possibly the Inverter as well.

Confirm that your Brightness setting is not set:
Look for your Function Key and and icon of a sun or a half/full circle. If this does not help then you have defective parts that need to be replaced.

I lost my manual and I'm just trying to find out what the symbols on the front panel mean. I'm particularly interested in knowing what is the difference between the sun and half-sun

The full sun symbol means full heat drying,, and the half sun symbol means half heat drying.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Blank screen

First thing is do you get the start-up screen when you turn it on?
If that appears tro be OK you may have inadvertantly changed the screen brightness.
Remove from the mount and rotate the unit in your hand to the light. Tap once on the screen and then tap where the light bulb icon is. Drag the brightness up to full scale. Also make sure it is not in night-time mode with its brightness turned way down. Not that you would probably suffer the same problem that I had but the screen will go blank and actually give you a thermometer reading if the unit overheats from being exposed to a locked car in full sun, Mine reported 52 degrees Celsius and failed to work until I cooled it down in front of the air-conditioner vents. Of course it was summer and I live in North Queensland Australia! Hope it comes good for you.

Display Hard to See

No - it's bright out there. Bright light, like a full sun on the beach, dims your perception of the screen. You can check the back light settings, but bright light is going to mess with this kind of lcd screen.
