Question about GE Refrigerators

GE fridge magnetic strip in right hand door needs to be re-installed, how can i do that?

It would appear that a magnetic seal approx. 36" long was found on the floor after the right hand door was opened. Cannot find an entry location in the seal to put back where it appears to belong. Doors appear to be working/sealing okay without this part but obviously GE felt it neccessary to have......

The magnetic strip (very dark brown) is usually embedded inside a similar square hollow tube all the way around the door gasket. For it to have come out, there has to be a cut, slice or hole in the outer coating of the gasket. Press all the way around the gasket and you should feel the hollow spot where the gasket came out. It will feel solid where the magnetic strip is still in there.

My GE Monogram Frig door will not stay shut, it's lost its vacuum seal!

Check the fridge for out of level. Magnets on the weather-stripping hold the door closed. If there is something stuck on the seal, or too much weight in the door in an un-level fridge it will not make good contact. Try cleaning the rubber, and removing everything from the door after leveling. A good seal will stay closed even if the fridge is off.

Refrigerator door will open slightly (sometimes imperceptually) when freezer door is shut, causing refrigerator to get warm. Cleaning door seal has not helped

Please check that the door is not twisted, have you got children that could have possibly been hanging on the door, most fridges have a plate that is adjustable that is on the bottom R/hand or L/hand door, but it will mean to pull the fridge clear of any work surfaces disconnect the power supply first tilt it back as far as possible but do not lay it down as this my cause any particles in the system to get into the small pipe work and block rendering useless, slacken off the screws or bolts just enough for the door to move locate the door equally around the fridge and retighten bolts, if this does not cure the problem then stand fridge up right and put a small block of wood or something similar in between the door and frame in the area that does touch the fridge then gently push the door in not to much just a bit at a time until the magnetic strip locks against the fridge to give a good seal.

Good luck

Every time the top frig door is closed the bottom freezer door opens sometimes only 10 or 15mm so that the alarm does not detonate. The reverse also happens, ie top door opens when the bottom door is...

There is an air duct that connects the fridge to the freezer. When the opposite door is closed air is trapped and forced out the other door pushing it open.
The door seals contain a magnetic strip that hold the door to the fridge, these magnetic strips have lost their strength, to test this use a shhet of paper. Open the door, place the sheet of paper across where the door closes, shut the door, then slide the paper out. If the paper comes out without any resistance then the door seal needs to be replaced.

Suction of freezer door

No, that perceived suction effect is the magnetic door seals 'grabbing" onto the fridge cabinet and pulling the door(s) shut firmly and securely.

Typically as the fridge gets older, you'll need to clean off both the fridge cabinet edges and the door seals to maintain a proper seal, which is essential to keeping the fridge operating properly.

Hopefully you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

The facing of the frame between the fridge and freezer is very hot (right where the seal makes contact). Is the defrost not switching off? Is there a timer or thermostat that may be bad? If so, hoe do I...

Model and brand is always helpful when requesting information.

This strip is warmed to prevent condensation forming here during humid weather. Some models use a refrigerant pass of the compressor to warm this strip other use a heater that can be controlled by a 2 position switch in the refrigerator control panel that reads something like "Turn this on if moisture appears on cabinet exterior". If you have no such switch you should be aware that the strip is ALWAYS warm but barely noticeable until you develop a problem in the cooling system.

Check temperatures in the freezer (Zero Degrees approx.) and refrigerator (Approx. 30). If these are normal don't worry about the heat from that strip. If you find a temperature not normal you have the beginning of a refrigeration problem.

Right hand door pops open when closing left hand door

The dool seal is not sealing completely on your fridge door . Maybe pulled in corner , split somewhere . If looks ok , then magnetic portion is not sealing against cabinet somewhere . Once you find the area , use a hairdryer to soften the rubber while door closed and it will pull itself down due to the magnet .

Fresh food door has poor suction

I don't know of any unit that creates suction. Most are magnetic. The seal itself has a magnetic strip molded into it . These are man made and deteriorate over time. If it is not holding the door closed it probably needs to be replaced. See if it has any magnetic ability left by placing a knife up next to it. It should pull the knife blade to it..Also the vinyl covering gets hard with age and does not bend to seal as easily. These two factors together can lead to sealing problems. This leads to frost accumulation around the door and poor cooling if the seal is bad enough.....Let me know...
