Re: motorola SB5101

Ya u should have a router instead of a modem because modem provide only one ip address>and there is no DHCP server in the switch or hub>so buy one router which has 4 ether net port and connect it directly to the modem and connect ur two pc's behind the router then both will get a seperate ip address from the router both will go online
the connection is
modem-->ether net cable to the inter net port on the router-->and two ether net cable from both pc's to the 1 and 2 ether net jack on the router reboot all the devices>and modem+router+pc's then it will work>rate me solved if its helps thx

My motorola SURFboard SB5101 has a on power light, a blinking recieve light, and an on PC/Activity light, with the other lights off. what is wrong with it?

The light pattern you have described indicates that the modem can not establish a connection to your internet service provider (ISP). This is typically do to a signal related issue. To trouble shoot the problem you will need to connect the modem directly to the main cable line where it first enters into the home. You will know when the modem establishes a connection by the top 4 lights becoming green. If at any point all 4 top green lights start to blink in sequence than you will need to contact your internet service provider to "unwall the modem". Remember most internet service providers require you to register your modem on there network. So if you have not all ready completed that process you will most likely not have access.

I hope that information above has helped is some way.
If possible please rate this solution.

I cant get my motorola sb5101 surf board cable modem to connect to a belkin g wireless router. the light on the belkin flashes orange when i try to connect it to the modem but no internet connection

I have a similar problem. The common denominator seems to be the SB5101. I have a brand new Belkin Surf 300N, same issue. The modem will not give DHCP to the router. I can connect fine via ethernet to the modem directly.
This modem seems to be a dinosaur.

My Motorola Sb5101 modem will not let me access the internet, the send light constantly flashes and i can't attain any internet connection.

If you have the following lights :
Power light - on
Receive light - flashing
Send light - flashing
Online light - off
PC/Activity - on
Standby - off
Then your Network Access is OFF - modem is successfuly registered but Network Access Control is disabled via DOCSIS configuration file.

Call your internet service provider....

Cant connect to xbox live need an ip address how do i get one

When the SurfBoard modem is powered up and connects to the internet on the WAN interface, it automatically gets an IP address from your ISP. When another machine is powered up and is connected to the modem via a USB cable, it is automatically using the WAN IP address to communicate with the world. If it is connected via the Ethernet connection, the modem automatically issues it its own IP address for use on the internal network via DHCP. The modem's internal Ethernet connection is The next machine powered on will normally get an IP address of
