The speakers are disconnected with the switch in the headphone jack. If you use headphones regularly and speakers quit working right after a session with headphones, the contact in the headphone jack my have gotten stuck or the relay this switch controls may have gotten stuck. -mark

1. Verify the source of the signal - Look for any antennas that may have been hooked up, and verify connection has not been moved or removed.
2. Test with a different output by plugging in some headphones, and recheck the volume through the headphones.
3. Check that the A/B switch for the speakers has not been moved, and that they are switched to the correct speakers.
4. Try AM and FM for any signals both with speakers and then headphones.

Good luck!

My Sennheiser RS 110 headphones won't work. I followed the installation directions but all I get is static. What else can I do?

First thing is you need to have a signal going to the headphones for them to work.

If you are getting a signal the green light should be lit.

If only the red lamp is lit the headphones are not getting a signal.

If hooked into a television you should have them plugged into a Fixed Output not variable output..

If you only have a variable output then you must turn the speakers off on the television and then turn the volume up on the TV in order to send a signal to the headphones.

If you are using a amplifier make sure you are using the correct output. Tape Monitors generally will not work as this output is not amplified.

Lastly try using an rca to headphone adapter and plug them into a headphone jack.

What are the correct speaker connectors for this unit RCA, Phono ,3.5 mm ?

Does it have a speaker output - I'm sure it does? More likely it's the 3.5mm. which may look like for headphones. The RCA are for low level signals so therefore it's not for the speakers. Do the speakers have two wires a piece? If they are, then there should be speaker output clips on the stereo to connect to. If they look like phono plugs then they go into the speaker output jacks.

My built in speakers don't work ..but any headphone works ..please help

The output of the speaker jack is not very high, mostly 5 volts DC. This is not enough to power speakers. Most add on speakers have their own power supply (a plug in or Batteries) to boost the volume or signal. If you plug the speakers in without the additional power requirements, they won't work.
It is a good test to plug your headphones in, that determines that your speaker jack is working.

Just wondered if i can connect my speakers straight to cd player or do i need to go through an amp Thanks

Component CD players like yours must be used with an amplifier. Their output is called "line level" and isn't beefy enough to drive speakers directly. An amplifier is needed to boost those line level signals to speaker level. The same is true for other components like tape decks, DVD players and so on. A CD player may have a headphone output jack, though, since headphones don't require the same power levels as speakers. So you could use the player by itself for headphone listening.

Hope this has cleared the air for you. Thanks for using Fixya!

I have a Samsung ht-p1200 system, and would like to use speakers AND headphones at the same time. How do I do that (when I plug in the headphones the signal to the speakers disconnetcs.

You could try rigging headphones to the speaker output if you don't mind cutting some wires and spending a couple bucks on a headphone jack thing.

My sony dav-s-400 system keeps activating headphone port output.

Just had and fixed the same problem that hundreds of people are suffering with this system!!
Sony DAV s400 - same problem, won't play though speakers and display indicates that headphones are plugged in - when they are not. Fairly easy to fix and took me less than an hour from start to finish:
1) Remove top cover
2) Remove circuit board that has Audio In/Out phono scockets (to get access to Amplifier Circuit Board)
3) Remove Amplifier circuit board (has the speakers attached)
4) Turn it over and remove copper heat shield
5) Resolder joints where the big brown capacitor is and where the wires go to the front headphone socket...and any other dodgy joints that you find
6) Reassemble.
