Where is the battery compartment?

This camera came with no instructions and the method of installing batteries is not apparent. The battery compartment is apparently hidden.

Brand and model camera?

Testimonial: "Jazz HDV504. I've found the compartment since I posted this, but it does not turn on at all without plugging into the USB port. And when I do this, all the display shows is "MSDC" with the USB symbol above it. :/"

Sorry I forgot to add-will it work if I leave it plugged in to charge?

To clarify, the batteries ran down extremely fast. Can I recharge them with the USB cable and my computer?

Change the batteries message keeps appearing even with fresh batteries. The camera turns on then immediately turns off What's up?

This actually a really common problem among Canon point and shoot cameras. There are a couple of methods that have worked well for others.

1. Open the battery compartment and remove the batteries. Then take a regular wooden pencil and place the eraser end down onto the battery contacts. Rotate the pencil to remove any corrosion. Sometimes a lack of proper battery contact will result in the low battery indicator.

2. Take a toothpick and wedge the tip under the battery contact and break it off. This will put more pressure between battery and contacts.

You can also try installing 3rd party firmware at http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_in_Brief
This is a bit technical and will probably void your warranty, but might be worth the try.

Camera does not turn on even with fresh batteries

Observe the new batteries are the most compartible to the camera and also check that the batteries are installed appropiately. Inserting the batteries where positve is at positive and negative is at negative is most appropaite. Observe the batteries compartment to acquire the manufacturers demarkations on which area requires negative and positive side to the batteries being inserted in camera.

D200 will not turn on

Have you checked for dirt in the camera battery compartment. Take some high powered air spray and blow it clean. See if that fixes it.

Battery is jammed inside ViviCam 8300s digital camera

I had to bore into the battery case and muscle it out with a knife. The battery had cracked and swelled inside the camera, so that's why it wouldn't come out.

New battery is in, and the camera works better than ever!

Sony Cyber-Shot Battery Compartment Door Broken

I'm having the same problem with my DSC-W1 camera. I dropped my camera and the battery door latches broke.
I found a replacement door on Ebay for $9.95
I followed the instructions in the description and easily removed the broken door from my camera. Now i'm just waiting on the new door to arrive so I could slide the new door in.
I hope this was helpful.

Here's the seller I bought the door from. Hopefully the seller has more doors. =) :

Installing battery

The battery on a SD550 is a 3L model, and it goes in one way.
The bottom of the battery has a set of copper looking contacts, and inside the camera in the battery compartment is a matching set of copper contacts, all you need to do is insert the battery to match the contacts and you should be good!
