Hi Ronnie Hourigan, I want to help you with your question, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? Need Make/Model/Year/Engine Model/Transmission Model/Deck Size, and hours on meter if you have one. A short description of the events preceding the beginning of the problem is also helpful.

Check your magneto kill circuit for breaks in the wiring or bad kill switch. You can the ignition coil to find if it has failed by connecting a temporary kill wire to the kill terminal crank the engine, once running connect this wire to engine's metal crankcase. If the engine does not shut down then the coil is bad; otherwise, wiring or switch problem.

Look for an open safety switch. There is one on the shift lever, one on the clutch pedal , one on the drivers seat ans one more on the lever that raises and lowers the mower deck.

How can I free both the stuck choke pullout lever and the on/off switch on my Poulan Pro 18" chainsaw? I tried using the start handle pull to rotate the engine, which turns normally, but switches are still...

This is a carburetor linkage problem and pulling engine though with the starter will not have any effect.

Check all the linkage at the carburetor for problems. Also try pulling the throttle trigger and may sure it operating the carburetor.

3cyl 993cc daihatsu engine starts and runs then shuts down could this have something to do with the fuel cut solonoid

If you can keep it running with the choke set, your engine is starving for fuel, your fuel filter, or carb is clogged. disconnect the fuel line to the carb and check for flow. Fuel cut would do just that, cut ALL fuel so choking would not matter.

How to start

Full choke until it tries to start, half choke until it does, and once it's running, open the choke fully and wait a few seconds for it to warm up before using it, as well as 15-20 seconds to let it cool down before shutting it off so as not to warp any metal parts of the engine

Sym red devil feels sluggish

Instructions
    • 1 Locate the red button on the top of the handlebars. This is called the "kill switch." When you pull it up the engine can run; when you push it down, the engine will shut off immediately.
    • 2 Pull the kill switch up.
    • 3 Turn the key to the "on" position.
    • 4 Make certain the cord running from the key is attached to the steering column. This device acts in the same manner as the kill switch - the engine will run only when it is secured.
    • 5 Pull the start cord, which looks like an enlarged lawnmower pull-cord and is generally found on the right side of the machine.
    • 6 Listen to the engine - if it starts, let it get going slowly . If it "pops" but does not continue to run, try pulling the start cord a few more times. If you do not hear the engine turn over at all, proceed to the next step.
    • 7 Find the pull tab under the right side of the handlebars. This is called the choke - it often has a circle with a diagonal line through it. The choke helps to start an engine when the weather is very cold or the machine hasn't been used in a while. When using the choke, try leaving it on only long enough to hear the engine fire a couple times, then return it to the "off" position. A choke left on too long can flood the engine.
    • 8 Place the choke in the vertical position - this is called the half choke position. Pull the start cord several times. If the engine fires up, place the choke back down to its original position and let it slowly warm up. If the engine still has trouble starting, proceed to the next step.
    • 9 Pull the choke 180 degrees from its original position - this is called the full choke. Pull the start cord until the engine sputters a couple times.
    • 10 Replace the choke to the original off position and continue to pull the cord. The engine should fire up and settle into a steady hum, ready for fun in the snow.

How do you shut it off?

Just put the choke on full and it will choke off. Both of my chain saws have a toggle switch that will interrupt the spark by grounding it. You cannot start the saws with out throwing that switch to on.

But you can just pull the choke on full and the engine will choke off.
