Either the drive has started failing or cable connection is lose. Try fixing the both and see (replacing the hard drive to another computer) and see if the same happens again.

Thanks and good luck!!

From a computer that has internet access, download the appropriate ethernet driver for your network card from the link above. As for the recovery disk, you'll have to contact Gateway for a replacement disk.

SOURCE: NO HDD RECOVERY AREA !

first boot pc, then right before windows would start, press either F2 or F8,, I think it's F2, this will bring you to bios settings, look for bootup device options, Set cd-rom as first bootup device, then Hard drive as second device, Then save settings, insert recover cd, then restart pc, it will immediately boot up your recover cd or windows disc

Try deleting partition(s) and re-creating. This problem has been around for a while. It could be the hard drive, but most say it's the disc.

Need to get winVista Home from Sony Vaio VGN-NS230E recovery disks to new 1TB HDD

Could be a recovery partition. Could be hard drive software partition. Could be junk.

Leave it and have an extra 10GB drive later. Or, delete it and take advantage of the space. If the recovery recreates it you will know where it came from.

On a side note, I suggest partitioning the 1TB drive. Make a OS partition, and possible 2 other partitions. It will help with defrag and keep your important files out of the OS side in case another recovery is required.

Hello,

You are trying to install windows xp? The normal windows xp cd will not have drivers for newer laptops. You will get this error message.

What you need to do is to try using acer recovery instead.

Acer machines should have a build in recovery, hold down ALT and presson F10 repeatedly when you power on the machine, keep pressing every 2seconds until acer recovery comes up, if it doesn't come up then yourmachine probably doesn't have that option, the laptops mostly have it.

If you are unable to do the above then you may be able to order recovery discs from ACER --https://secure.tx.acer.com/RCDB/Main.aspx?brand=Acer

what are you using to reformat the hdd? if you havent formatted the hdd using any retail version of od disc, youmay try to access the vaio recovery partition.. that is when you restart the computer, then press f10 key repeatedly for 5-7secs. it will load vaio recovery center. then from there, select restore c: drive. follow on-screen instruction and it will format the hdd. process may take for 45mins up to an hour

Evesham Axis RD A-List failed HD - can't boot from CD

Sounds like the hdd is failing. Do you have a restore disk or OS disk? Or was there a restore partition on the failing hdd? Either way, it looks like your going to need a new hdd and at least a restore or OS disk. Not real familiar with the Evesham Axis.

HARD DISK NOT FOUND MESSAGE ON SCREEN

There might be few reasons for this.

The worst is that your Motherboard/HDD is broken, but I am almost sure that this is NOT the case. Motherboards and HDDs do not burn just like that !

The good thing is that you can 'see' your HDD in BIOS, which means it is not dead!

There can also be a wrong BIOS settings for the HDD controller. Check BIOS settings for your HDD-SATA controller. Somehow maybe your BIOS lost/changed HDD settings.

The problem is that I am not sure you can check your HDD on another computer. If you can do that, then it is the best chance to determine if something is wrong with your HDD, Also there (on another computer) you can more easy use some HDD test and repair software. Also, that way you can easy make backup of your important files.
Bott from WINXP BOOT disk and try recovery console (chkdsk/p at command prompt)

Try to download Hiren's Boot CD(http://www.hiren.info/pages/bootcd).

Regards

Can't find OS

Even if you set it to slave, what has happened is the drive motor is burned out. Lets face it, your HDD is dead and there is no hope of recovery unless you take it to a data recovery shop, and that is $$$$.

The No OS message is the worst message you could possibly see and that is a direct indication that your HDD is dead in the water.

Just go get another HDD or go buy XP to replace ME on that other HDD you have.

Realistically there is nothing you did or didn't do to cause a harddrive failure. It is just the way of the world nothing lasts forever...
