PC America RPE terminal looking for proper license - all of a sudden & won't allow me to enter reset #.

Have 5 terminal about 10 years. All are running on MS Surface Pro. Two issues: 1 the emergency issue: one terminal will not start no matter what I do. I get an error message that says not properly licensed. I asked for the reset & confirmed the number is reset. however, if I click yes, I want to register in order to enter the reset #, everything goes away. If I hit no, I get a message saying I am not properly licensed and everything goes away. So I am not able to enter the license number. I've tried deleting cresetup.pca, but nothing. I've restarted and nothing. Server is updated with latest windows and so is terminal. Terminal is on the network and can see the server and server can see the terminal. 2 When windows updates, the Surface Pros will no longer print to the kitchen printer. It asks for a driver. I reinstall the drivers and no go. I've tried tons of suggestions online, but nothing works. I usually have to system restore to prior to the update. Thank you!

How to delete restaurant pro and start over

Backup database first.
Log your license key by trying to register. It should display.
Uninstall RPE from Programs in Control Panel. Then search for the folder and rename it Then reload RPE.
After install, it will ask you to re-register. It will also ask you if you want to keep existing database. If you are starting from scratch, choose over write with a new one. Otherwise, keep existing db. This will preserve your inventory and menu setup.

How do i reload RPE

First thing to do is backup database unless you are starting over from scratch. Next you will need your license key. If you don't have it, just go to FILE and try to register again. It should display your current key.
Assuming you do not have a CD and you downloaded it, search for a file called RPE_setup.exe. This is the install file. You need to uninstall RPE from PROGRAMS in CONTROL PANEL first. Then reboot. Then you need to rename the folder. Call it Then open the install file and it should reinstall.
You will need to re-register software after install. If it fails to register, call PCAmerica and ask for a reset on your license. Try to keep them on the phone until it does register.

RPE Won't start. Can't even get to the credentials/login screen. Database exceptions.

Check to see if the SQL service is running. Go to Control Panel, Admin Tools, Services. These three should be started. SQL Server (PCAMERICA), SQL Server Browser, and SQL Server VSS Writer. It sounds like you are having a connect problem to your database. Did you do any RPE upgrades or conversions? Since you let system set for several months, I assume your free tech support has expired. If not, contact them today. Don't wait. Otherwise, you need tech help. I'm available at a much more reasonable rate than PCAmerica.

If you are installing it for the first time, then you should have free tech support from PCAmerica. Take advantage of it and keep on them till it is working correctly. If you are out of warranty period, uninstall RPE from Control Panel after you record your license key number. Then delete any and all CRE folders and content from your hard drive. Empty Recycle bin and reboot. Then reinstall RPE.

Message reads "this computer is licensed as a dedicated server and is not for normal use?

When RPE was first opened, it was configured as a server, not a workstation. If you want it to become a workstation, it will need to be reconfigured. Just reload RPE. You can then reconfigure it on startup.

Our restaurant Pro application freezes intermittently sometime once a day when it is not busy but is freezes everyday.

Are you sure it is RPE freezing and not the computer itself. Many things can cause what you are talking about. If you have a touch screen, it could be locking up. If you have a keyboard attached, next time it freezes, hold down the Ctrl and Alt keys and press Delete. This should let you start Task Manager. On the Applications tab, see if any programs are listed as Not Responding. If none are, click the Processes tab. Find the file called CRE2004.exe, highlight it, then click End Process. Click YES to the warning message. This should shutdown RPE and unfreeze computer if RPE is causing freeze up.
If you don't have a keyboard attached, try to add one temporarily to resolve this problem. If RPE is indeed the culprit, backup database and reload RPE. You may need to call tech support to get your license key reset. A very annoying feature.

End of Day report is not printing correctly on the Epson printer. The output seems to be too wide for the printer and the right half of the report is not showing up. What should parameters be set to?

Start by checking the obvious. In FRIENDLY PRINTER SETUP, highlight report and select the proper printer on the right. It must be a full size printer. SAVE AND EXIT.
If those settings were OK, close RPE and open the windows PRINTER screen. Right click on the EPSON printer for reports and click on printer properties. In the properties dialog box, click on PRINT TEST PAGE. If the test page look fine, the printer should work with RPE.
Try other reports under the ADMINISTRATOR setting in RPE. If they are all printing OK, you may have a corrupt END of DAY report file. Reloading RPE should correct this, but all you really need to do is replace the bad file. If you have more than one PC running RPE, you can get this file from them. It is usually under C:\program files\\reports.

I purchased the RPE software, but they lost the license key, they give me the cd, am i srcrewed ?

You need to contact sales, not tech support. As long as they have a record of your purchase, they should issue you a new license key. If you purchased directly from PCAmerica, contact your sales rep otherwise, any rep should be able to correct this.
