Try another lead a genuine apple one.
Check dock connector at bottom for fluff stopping data lead from
check dock connector under magnifying glass for bent or corroded pins.
put in disk mode by reseting(hold middle button and top button) then when apple logo appears then (hold middle button and bottom button ) till "tick" appears.(you are now in disk mode). Connect to itunes and restore.
If all does not work change battery.
