Hi. We are trying to setup a phillips tv through a bt vision box please

  1. A TV aerial feed - The BT Vision box gets its digital TV signals over-the-air, so needs a TV aerial. This needs to be connected to the aerial input socket on the V-Box. There is an output RF aerial socket to allow you to connect an aerial feed to a TV if required.
  2. SCART lead - You need to make a connection from the Vision+ box to the TV using a SCART lead. If you have a HD TV set, you can also connect via an HDMI lead (not supplied).
  3. Connection to Broadband - You'll need to connect from the BT Vision+ box to a BT Broadband connection. This is done using the BT Home Hub. The Home Hub is the Broadband router supplied by BT, and it connects into to your phone line to give you Internet access-The most common way to make the connection, is to connect an Ethernet (networking) cable from the BT Vision+ box to one of the Ethernet ports on the Home Hub. If you can't make a direct connecting to the Home Hub, you can use powerline adapters to make the connection. The self-install kit includes two Powerline adapters to allow you to connect to the Home Hub if it's in a different room to the BT Vision+ Box.
  4. The BT Vision v-box has an additional scart socket, which can be connected to a video or dvd recorder.

Why can I not change my BT Broadband to another provider. I can change phone but BT will not allow other providere to give me their broaband which has a great saving for me?

Hi
BT provide (and own) the telephone line infrastructure for this country, and all providers go through this infrastructure. Some exchanges have proprietary equipment in them belonging to one or other of the various providers which allows them to offer something that BT may not, ut they still have to use the BT lines, which they rent from BT Wholesale division. So if BT won't let them use the lines you are in trouble when it comes to getting Broadband other than BT.
There are options however, firstly try PlusNet, as I believe they are part of BT so may get better treatment than other providers. Secondly there is Satellite Broadband but this can be expensive, especially installation when compared with over the phone. Thirdly mobile 3g or 4g broadband if you have coverage in your area, but speeds are highly reception dependant and if you don't get good mobile phone signals then this option is unlikely to work. Also you would probably have to buy and install a 3g/4g modem router and I'm not dure how expensive these are.
This may not have been a lot of help, except possibly understanding the problem !!

Hi, since having a new BT home hub, my inspiron 6400 will not connect wirelessly unless I do a 'repair' with it. Sometimes it detects broadband but wont connect wirelessly. My son changed the channel...

Most people have to just work out the configuration by them selves BT do offer a lot of support (0800 022 33 22) Their equipement is pretty good and widely used.
By the way the most least used channels are 1,6,and 11 there might be a default but these are the most complete channels which do not overlap(RE;
cnannel 1]--2.412 Centre frequency(ghz)
channel 6]--2,437
channel 11]-2.462

Bt hub 2.0, the internet light is red, but the telephone line works, although it's very noisy/crackly. have changed the micro filters but still cannot connect to the internet.

It sounds like you have a fault on your phone line which is affecting the performance of your broadband.

As long as you haven't added any more phones to your house without a splitter, then I would go with the problem being your phone line.

You might want to give BT Broadband (assuming you have BT broadband with the BT Hub) on 0800 111 4567 they will be able to advise you further, failing that, you may need to log a call with BT about the phone line itself, which is just 151 from the line that you are having problems with. It is always best to phone from the line that you are having problems with, so they can hear that there are problems with the line.

Hope that this information helps! :)

BT phone and broadband from sky...ok i cant make or receive phone calls.bt say that they checked the line and it shows no faults..ive tried different phones on line but no joy, interactive on sky box also...

Not a total solution, but a reason , perhaps.

I have both BroadBand and Telephone from BT.

In the past they always billed you with one bill. also if your phone was cut off due to lack off payment so the BB went off also.

they have now split their billing system - and services- into two separate identities, meaning that the phone could be cut off for calls yet your Broadband will still work and vice versa.

So, i would say the problem lies with BT , even though you have ordered your BB from Sky they still have to ask BT to setup your service at the exchange. It seems that they have not checked your service for both BB and phone.

I recently had my phone cut off (BT's 'direct debit 'accident'!) but my BB worked throughout the fortnight it took them to resolve where my paid bill money was!..

So. Call your main service provider (that would be Sky if you get no bills from BT) and tell them your phone service has most certainly NOT been activated.

I recently spent 17 hours over 3 days speaking to 23 customer assistants, before reaching a manager who resolved a similar issue for me at BT.

Under their new setup BB personel cannot see your phone account and phone personel cannot see your BB account - and we get charged over 1/3rd more for this mayhem . their reason explained to me as "having everything on one bill was confusing some customers so you now have two accounts and two bills for everything" !!

your socket is fine as you have enough connection for BB which takes more bandwidth than a voice line.

Basically you have some corporate customer service red tape to hack through.

Good luck

Wireless connection problem

BT is right, the fault is at your end, because you can connect to the Internet with an ethernet cable.
You have lost your wireless connection with the wireless hub.
This could be low signal strength (especially if the wireless access point is in one part of the house and your laptop is in another room)
OR Your laptop wireless card has lost its wireless access configuration.
Check your laptop wireless configuration, check your signal strength, check your SSID, check your security (WEP or WAP),
Have you got MAC address filtering.
Go to control panel, click on network connections, right click on Wireless Network, Click on repair (might fix your connection problem), Else right click on Status (should give you indication of how your wireless is functioning or not functioning).
Check your TCP/IP settings is set for "Obtain an IP address automatically"
Without more information it is difficult to identify exactly what is wrong with your connection.

Do you have the Asus type (you can read it on the Motherboard between the PCI connectors)?

When you plug the RJ45 connector do you see at least one LED on?
