I know this will sound crazy. But while its sitting there with the black screen... and IF you have a function key to put the computer to sleep... do that. Then wait till the computer has gone to sleep, and hit one of the shift keys to wake it back up.

I manage more than 20 computers, most running Windows 8. Only one of the computers does the black screen thing, and this is how I get past it. Has worked every time for several months.

did you remove all power and sata connections restart your computer repeatedly tapping the f8 key to enter safe mode while the screen is black once in safe mode where the only things working will be your keyboard and mouse allowing you to attempt to repair your computer

you could select the option start at last known configuration that worked this will tell you if and what file has been corrupted or missing then you will know if its a hardware issue and
work your way through the problem
if the problem still persists f8 back into safe mode you might need to select your operating system to load into safe mode

click start control panel administration tools computer management in the left panel events + to expand then system you will see all errors in right panel right click select properties this will tell you what has occurred and the time it occurred

you might use the system restore to restore your system to an earlier time click start all programs accessories system tools you should see your system restore option if it is a hardware issue the system restore might not work

hope this helps you

Did you boot from disc by pressing F12 when you see the logo and select boot from CD? I would suggest you to enter system setup by pressing F2 and check which one is the option choose for your hard disk or HDD if it displays like that. Make sure it says single SATA or IDE disk. If you are not sure where to see, you may choose to restore the default setting of BIOS there. Then reboot. If the problem persists, you can plug the hard disk to another computer and backup the data. I don't see any restore to factory default option for this model. So you can format this hard disk on another machine after the backup and then reinstall the operating sytem using your disc. Try to boot with F12 and choose boot from CD then reinstall it from the scratch. Quicker than check all the details.
Here is a link where you can see which drivers to download from Dell's web site.

it is nothing but windows registry error. do one thing in another pc download the Hiren's boot cd from internet, write that file in a cd, try to boot from that cd & repair the registry. otherwise just format the operating system & reload the OS.

HP Pavillion dv2500 laptop will not boot up.

Pressing the f8 key doesn't work either? This should boot the laptop to safe mode, if it doesn't then check the memory cards before you do anything else, try to get somebody with the same type of memory card to lend it to you. If that doesn't work, then your HDD is corrupted, and to re-install Windows.

"hard drive disk is corrupted, it will be restored" but it doesnt

I'm not 100% on this but this generally means that the hard drive is bad. You can try reseating it (open the door on the left side, take out the blue screw slide the HDD back and then reseat it) and it may fix it. Else looks like you may have to buy a new one. You can probably check the sony website for upgrades or look online to buy a new one. I don't think it'll be too costly.
