Need instruction on adjusting the RLS on my peerless cartridge.

The check valve that attaches to the cartridge was broken so I replaced it but, not the cartridge. Once finnished replacing all the parts I can't get the shower to turn off completely. I think I need to adjust the RLS but, not sure how to do it on the model I have. Can you help with this? Thank you

hi there:) your problem is caused by the cartridge inside the valve body. could be one of 3 things...1)the cartridge is damaged 2)hard water build up 3)foreign matter. it is not to difficult to replace it yourself: first turn off the water then find the set screw, which holds the handle in place, usually located at the base of the handle and remove it. (look closely/carefully cause it's hiding) then remove the escutcheon ring and the trim sleeve to expose the "bonnet" (lock ring) and remove it. (ritey titey lefty loosey) now you can remove the cartridge and inspect it for debris/damage. if you need a new one just take it w/you to any plumbing supply including home depot and/or lowes and they will help you find it. here is the installation/owners manual from peerless: http://peerless-faucet.com/customer-support/find-repair-parts/documentation/P8760.html hope this helps but if you need anything else just ask:)

Shower drips - seems to be increasing

Need to replace your internal seals inside the shower valves.
Go to Home Depot, Lowes, etc. and make sure you take your model number and maker of your shower and they can get you the parts to repair the valves to stop your leak.
If you do not repair it soon, the water leaking by will cut your metal seat and it will never stop dripping, you will have to replace the valve and it is a MAJOR job.

I have a single handle shower valve by Moen. Water is slowly leaking past the valve when shut off. I got the handle off but need to know how to further disassemble so I can replace whatever seal or o-ring...

there is a clip holding the cartridge in place. You need to remove that and then there is a little plastic throw away tool that comes with a new cartridge that you use to break the seals loose on the old cartridge....then you use a pair of channel locks to grab the stem and pull it out. The new cartridge should come with detailed instructions.
If it is a moentrol valve...the part number is 1225 and if it is a posi-temp it is a 1222. Moentrol you pull out to turn on and then left and right for temp adjustment. Posi-temp just turns to turn on and you turn from cold to hot to adjust through the temp range.

Depending on the brand there are sometimes "U" clips that slide from the top of the cartridge housing. Others have compression rings that you will need a special tool for. You can find the tool at your local hardware store. If you know the brand you can find a diagram on the internet to determine the type of retainer your faucet has. If I knew the brand I could be more precise.

Shower temperature too hot

Shower valves that have anti-scald features are renowned for this problem. Usually it is caused by not being used regularly. It can be repaired usually without replacing the valve, but you will have to dissemble it, clean, and use some plumbers grease to reassemble it. It should work fine after this. If it still does not work you will need to replace the cartridge.
