The 20 amp fuse blows when i engage the pto. cub cadet 1045 20 hp

Pto cluch is shorted to ground
unplug the pto to isolate the pto from the circut,
Does the fuse still blow ?
use a ohm meter to test the plug at the pto
Test each side of plug to pto body or ground if meter goes to zero the cluch is shorted , and is not fixable (sealed unit)
you will have to by a new one I'll say around 50 to 75 dollars

PTO cable: Ariens 960160021

Sounds like you are missing a return spring. Your PTO if it's mechanical engage has a tension spring to bring it back when disengaged.

Does the electric pto clutch on a model 1024 have oil inside of it

Hi, the pto should be dry, the oil would have come from the engine somewhere. Most likely the main crankshaft seal. Regards Phil.

Briggs&straton all the oil leaked out from under the engine. the engine oil

hi there donald77

provided you have not got any cracks in the sump plate and the sump plate bolts are tight

sounds like you have a worn out pto seal ( please check pto for bend or wobble ) as this could have caused this from hitting something solid

it it is bent have it straightened before proceeding

remove the blade carrier and hub and key - clean up the pto with emery tape , drain oil , use a straight shaft flat blade screwdriver and lever the seal out of position

obtain a new seal place some thin plastic sheet ( from say a thin walled plastic container )
cut into a size that you can wrap around pto , then slide the seal over it up to the opening ,
the drive the seal into the housing squarely until the seal is flush with the housing ( on a non stepped pto ) 7/8 shaft

but on a stepped pto 25 mm drive it in further until its about 3 mm below the housing

reassemble and refill with oil

cheers hope it helps
