Need to seehow auto mix knob, piston fit into auto mix assembly to reassemble unit ,

If the automix piston has fallen out of your Bissel unit when you disassembled it, it isn't obvious how it goes back together. In order to reassemble the Bissel unit you need to fit the end of the automix piston with the square piece on it into the "square corner slot" by the automix knob inside of the top cover while ensuring that the outer spiral of the knob engages the small groove at the top of the piston. It only fits in the "slot" one way. If put in correctly, you can see the piston raise and lower when you turn the automix knob. Turn the automix knob so that the piston is in the upmost position and it should stay in place while you put the cover back onto the bottom of the unit.

Hey Richard. Turn the shampoo mix dial so the spiral is all the way at the top when you are looking at it from underneath. then, you want the piston to seat in the top groove of the knob. You want the piston's end that jets out to fit in the space right behind the knob. so you need to line up the shorter side in the groove on the knob and kinda roll it back into it's place. Then, turn the knob all the way down and now you can finish. Note: you need to prop up the rear end of the machine when fitting it together, it really helps, the front end of the cleaner on some of those models has "holding tabs" that might also be hindering the operation.. Also, be sure that the air tube that comes out of the fan opening on you motor is on the hole exactly straight in the rubber washer.. If not, then you wont have any water dispersement. If you hear sucking air after you put the lid back on, it isn't on right. I've been doing vacuums for 20 years, and still with that particular cleaner, I have to sometimes take it apart and reassemble it four or five times! Those are a pain. I really hope that any of this made any sense, it is hard to describe without visuals. Please, if I did help, take the time to leave feedback. It will really help my rating. Thank you. The solution in my smart mix will not mix with water and the button just keeps going round and clicks and will not stop on either water or solution.

The smart mix knob is connected to a piston that slides up and down into the automix assembly. This piston has come off of the smartmix knob and left the unit on water only setting. Sometimes the smart mix knob breaks on the bottom side letting loose the piston.

This can be a difficult repair. You have to unscrew the flow indicator window and remove the fan and screen(pay attention to how they come out, most people want to put the pointed end of the white screen down. It goes up.) Place a piece of 2X4, a book, something underneath the machine, between the rear wheels. This will lift the wheels into the air, and keep everything in place when you remove the hood. Take the 6 screws out that hold the hood and lens. As you remove the hood try to do it slowly and pay special attention to any hoses that might try to pull off with it. If you don't get those hoses back into the right place, the machine will not work. The piston will probably be stuck into the automix assembly when you get the hood off. It is a three inch black cylinder with an O ring on it. If you hold the hood upside down and place the cornered side of the piston into the corner of the housing between the knob and the solution chamber, you should be able to hook the winding on the knob with the piston and then turn the knob to screw the piston down into the windings. It won't lock into place, but hold it there well enough to put the machine back together correctly.

If you feel like you're forcing something when putting the hood back on, you probably are, so stop and check to make sure all the hoses are where they are supposed to be.

Good Luck

MOD 1699-f reassemble cleaner fluid mix switch

This is one of the most difficult machines to work on, but I can help you to reassemble the the "Automix Assembly." There is a black piston with an O ring on it that has to be put in place before the hood is put back on. This part will actually set inside the windings on the smart mix knob, before the hood is placed on the machine, and as you place it on the machine, the piston will have to slide down in the hole on the automix. Getting the piston into the windings can be a little tricky. You might have to play with it a bit and it doesn't lock into place. It just sits in there loosely, just enought to hold it in place while you put the unit back together. It's hard to describe how to place the piston in the windings of the knob, but I'll give it a try. Hold the hood upside down and place the squared corner of the piston into the squared corner of the hood between the knob and where the solution tank would sit on the opposite side. Now you can turn the know and screw the piston down into positon and the hood is ready to install.
Hit: put a book or peice of 2X4 under the unit between the rear wheels to lift the wheels off the work surface and help line everything up. If the hood doesn't feel like it is seating into place correctly, something is wrong. Very important on this machine: if even one hose is slightly out of place it with not pump. If it doesn't pump alway check the attachments to see if they pump. It they don't, then you might have a clogged heater.

Good Luck

Can't reassemble!!!

The piston is put on the bottom of the smart mix knob, turn the knob to the water only setting, then put the top housing back in place making sure that the piston went into the slot, after the top is all of the way down, turn the knob, if it turns easily, then it is in place.

Connecting a BISSELL AUTO MIX PISTON TO A AUTO MIX KNOB

Take of the housing ,turn it over and you will see the under side of the auto mix dial , Then turn the auto mix dial to rinse only;
On the top of the piston you will see a small slot , this fits into
the out side spiral on the auto mix knob with the dial set to rinse only the top part of the spiail sould point to the courner
Tilt the piston slightly, then hook it on the point of the auto mix knob , when you turn the auto mix dial to heavy traffic the piston should slide down the outer spiral of the auto mix-dial ,
Put the housing back on with the auto mix dial set to heavy traffic, but make sure no tubes are trapped or this will stop the flow of water,
i hope you can under stand what i have wrote ,Goodluck

Put the piston on the bottom part of the knob, You want the the knob to be at the water only setting when it goes into the slot. After the top is pushed all of the way on, turn the auto-mix knob to see if it is turning easily. If it doesn't stop, and wants to keep turning, then you probably need a new knob.

Turn the knob to the water only, put the piston on the bottom of the knob then turn it slightly so it doesn't fall off, Start to put the cover on, when it is straight, turn the knob to the water only selection and push the top all the way down. The piston should have gone into the hole and the knob should turn easily.
