Question about Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB 2.0 Audio Interface - Red/Black Scarlett 2i2

3 Answers

Cannot get audio playback through headphones. Playback is fine when listening through computer speakers, but not through 2i2.

Can hear input while recording, but not while playing back what was just recordedThis is not a matter of mute/solo/monitor. Everything worked fine until I unplugged, took the lap top away for a few days, returned and plugged in. That's it. No audio playback.

The issue for me was in the software settings. I'm using Cubase LE 7 and under Devices>Device Set up and make sure the correct input source is selected. I had already selected it but for some reason it defaulted to the built-in on the computer. This solved the problem.

I don't mean to piggyback on his question, but essentially I want to bump it. I have a very similar dilemma with mine audio, but I think it may be due to the software that I'm using. Is there anyway his problem and mine could be due to the actual audio drivers that we have? could be worth a check. Computer Support

Further troublwshooting seems to indicate the issue is with Cubase LE 7, and not the 2i2. Tried recording/playback in GarageBand. All is well there. Still sorting out issue in Cubase.

What type of laptop is this, Windows or MAC? If Windows, go to Control Panel/Device Manager and make sure that your USB 2i2 interface is being detected as an external sound card. Then check the Sound Manager in Control Panel to make sure that the external sound card is selected as the playback device. Go back through the setup portion of the users manual. Windows does not necessarily 'remember' settings for devices when they are unplugged and then plugged back in again.

I can't hear the sound from my PC when I'm using the mixer. Its hooked up to both the computer and the speakers, but when I'm recording in pro-tools 11 I can't hear any of my playback. I have to bounc

hello. Im not too familiar with Protools (mainly because its a headache right out of the box), but MY understanding is that Protools won't recognize a lot of external audio devices. (such as behringer)
however..if you are able to record and 'see' the audio there, just not hear it, there might still be a solution, & seeing as how i never used protools, it still might just work.
First of all:
if you're using the UCA-200 external usb box connected with rca cables, then my solution SHOULD work, as it is what i did to get mine to finally do the same thing.

#1) you will need to pick up (x2) RCA-1/4 jack adapters . (radioshack, about $2 each)
#2) insert a red and white rca cable in the RIGHT side of the Mixer's CD/Tape out .....the other end of the rca cables will go into the UCA-200 INPUT.
#3) with 2 more cables in the OUTPUTs of the UCA-200, put the rca-1/4 jack adapters on both cables, insert them back into the Mixer inputs 9/10 (in the analog 1/4 instrument inputs)
#4) adjust volumes accordingly, make sure channel 9/10 isn't muted, headphone volume is up, etc..
.......if that didn't do the trick, then you will need to go into the Audio Settings menu on your computer..(or protools) and change the default playback device to your mixer (probably named Generic USB or something similar)

I really hope this helps somewhat, because i remember going through the same thing & it took a looong time to find the correct awnser.
best of luck!

*also*

check for any updated drivers for your mixer! (I personally recommend you do a Google search for Asio4all drivers, they're pretty good)

if your awnser is A), i would suggest going into your computer's Audio Settings menu, and select the mixer as your default playback device.

Cant get to play music without headphoes

Most modern computers come with internal speakers already installed, especially laptop computers.
These speakers may be sufficient if you are performing typical computer tasks, but when you play computer games, listen to music or watch movies on your computer, you may want louder and more vibrant sound.
You can achieve this by installing external speakers or headphones. These can be connected to your computer through the speaker or USB ports included on your computer.

Plug in the speakers or headphones.
If the speakers or headphones use a stereo plug, insert the plug into the speaker/headphone port normally located on the side or front of your computer.
This port is often color-coded green. If the equipment is connected using USB, locate a free USB port.
Some external speakers will also need to be plugged into a power outlet in the wall or your surge protector.
This may be all you need to do to get the speakers or headphones to work. If they do not, continue to the next step.
Open the audio settings on your computer.
From the Windows Start menu, open the Control Panel. Here you will find audio and sound settings.
Click the heading to see your sound and audio options.
Choose "Manage audio devices" in Windows 7.

Find your Playback device.
In the Playback tab, you can select your speakers and set them as the default for your system.
If you do not see your speakers or headphones, they have not been installed properly. Disconnect and reconnect them to see if it corrects the problem.

Configure your settings.
Select your device from the list and click "Configure" to test your settings.
You can adjust the volume by using the volume slider on your computer's task bar or using external controls on the speakers or headphones.

When I record and listen to playback, I only hear the left side.

This is normal for recording. Even professionals do the same. What you need is to set your input to mono(either hardware or software), or explore your software look for effects like STEREO to MONO with some delay which I prefer for my recording. I did have a good result. Good Luck

No sound in playback (but can hear click track)

This might seem simple, but just to check: you have switched off the monitor on the track when you go to playback? With track monitor engaged, you will not hear playback, but will continue to hear the live monitor.

when the sound device is installed it should give you sound effect manager or sound device,to access this go to START then CONTROL PANEL then SOUND SPEECH AND AUDIO DEVICE,open Sound Effect Manager, then Sound Effect, select Headphones from the Enviroment Dropdown and click ok.test this output now.

If this doesn't resolve the problem ,
reinstall device again.
