Question about Garden

While mowing idled down due to phone call then mower died. Now all is dead even boosting it. Only thing clicking is fuel valve on carb. All handles and blades are in start pos.

Make sure your parking brake is set. If it is then you need to the starter solenoid circuit.

Tip

LAWN MOWER WONT STAY RUNNING


This is a basic lawn mower problem that haunts all the little gas engines in all makes and models of lawn mowing equipment....stalling and hard starting due to fuel problems stem most of the time from dirty, varnished fuel that has been left sitting inside your mowers fuel tank, fuel lines and carburator.
Also be certain the air filter gets replaced quite often they get dirty and clogged rather quickly, but back to your fuel system problems....lets address this in stages...first step is to drain and flush the fuel tank, the fuel lines, and the carburator(remove the carb. bowl).
Next step with a can of carb cleaner and a pair of eye protectors spray out the carb real good hitting all the small orifices(hol;es machined into the carb. body to transfer fuel or air) they have a habit of clogging up, also the small brass center fuel bowl you removed to drop the fuel bowl down for cleaning has a hole and a small vent valve in it do the same for it, next remove the carb. making a note of how the small linkage springs and rods go to meke installation easier when iot comes time to put it all back together, with the carb off, soak it in a mild degrease solution over nite, next day, gently blow out all the solvent from the carb being careful not to lose the needle and seat valve that controls the fuel/ float flow, when all finished reinstall the unit being sure the bowl fuel ring gasket is installed properly as not to cause a fuel leak, check after you get it running and all new fresh fuel is added , to see if the carb adjuster screw needs to be adjusted, it is facing the outside of the mower toward you and on the side of the carb around where the linkage is pivoting from.
90% of all problems with these small engine stalling and starting is due to these very basic repairs, if you do it yourself you will save $$$$ everytime.

Cub Cadet LT1046 Starts and runs fine then 'gags' and will die after 20 minutes or so


sounds like dirt in the jets of the carby especially if the fuel was dark
as fuel is not normally dark and this problem is recent I would be checking the can from which the fuel tank was filled as it may have had diesel fuel in it instead of petrol which will give the same symptoms
worth a smell

sounds like dirty carb get a rekit clean and boil the carb what i mean by boil go to auto store buy strong carb cleaner put the strip carb in it for two days take it out using compressed air we use 300 lbs blow every hole out in that carb if yu see tiny holes take a wire and poke the blow them out again put back to gether with other parts you boiled like the jet and down spout turn adjust ment screw out 4 turns that should get it started the run and adjust from there should run fine main thing dirty carb problem

Hi, run a number drill through the main jet. Even though you have carby cleaned it a thin layer of residue will remain on the walls of the jet. The problem you have is a lean misfire. Regards Phil.

My lt 1000 17.5 hp riding mower will backfire once in awhile when starting but runs fine once it starts. why


first smell the oil is there a gas smell to it?the needle valve maybe dripping fuel and over flowing into the intake

Two things:
1 Is fuel coming out of the fuel line. Older mowers have old fuel lines and they tend to get weak and collapse went they warm up with engine heat. Replace the old fuel line.
2 deposits in the carb. take off the air cleaner, start it up and spray a good carb cleaner in the carb until the engine dies. Put some 'seafoam' in the gas and a little in the oil and put the air cleaner back on and start the mower and mow on FULL THROTTLE. this should claen out the carb. Yes the mower will run rough for awhile.

these two cheap fixes will solve 85 % of carb problems. GOOD LUCK

Float stuck in open position. When the gas evaporated in it there was a gunk left behind and then It was down and either froze up or there is trash keeping the needle valve from sealing up all the way.
So when you start it gas keeps pouring into the motor. It is suposed to shut off once it gets enough to run on.
Be real careful take the carb off and remove the bowl. And then the float. Take a q-tip and clean the needle valve port ou real good. And clean the rubber tip gently. Then put back together.
When it is upside down the float should be parallel with the carb. That would be the shut off point. You may have to adjust it.

That should do it. When you hook the gas line back up loosen the bowl and let gas in carb til it starts to run out. Then mow.

Remove the bottom bowl of the carberator and replace the needle-valve and float - cleaning this area as you do so.  Sounds like the float has a hole in it or the needle valve in the carb is sticking.  Use some fuel stabilizer prior to storing for winter next time, if not the old gas turns to shellac and makes things stick.

Mower won't stay running


brad, if it runs for a bit and dies it has to be a fuel problem. i would take the carburetor off and clean it real good with carburetor cleaner. go ahead and put a rebuild kit in it. they are fairly cheap. check the fuel lines that they are not dry and cracked. blow out the fuel filter or replace. blow out the fuel tank make sure it is flowing correctly. some have screens in the bottom that plug up. the 2 wire thing on the bottom of the bowl is a fuel shut off valve. if the key is turned off it will push up on the needle stopping the flow of fuel. a anti back fire valve. gently pull up on the black piece you will see sticking up in the bowl. if it comes off easily it will need replaced or cut off. it may be coming off while running causing it to run out of fuel and die. after it sets for a second it looses its suction and falls back in position letting fuel back in the carburetor so it will run for a few more minutes . dont pry it or pull it off just be sure it is not loose.
