Question about Panasonic Televison & Video

1 Answer

Want to write out keepsake HD titles from my Panasonic HW-220 onto Dual Layer BD-R(W) discs for my personal collection, and to free up space/slots on the unit...

I've seen an external BluRay burner Panasonic UJ265, which I want to know if I can connect directly via USB to my existing Panasonic HW-220 PVR unit, in order to write out HD titles from TV programmes I've recorded over the past two years - is this possible, or is there any other way to do this, including transferring the HW-220 titles to an existing Panasonic HW-735 unit which has a built-in BluRay recorder, so I'd be able to write out to Dual Layer BD-R(W) discs in one-time HD from there instead?...

The video in the PVR is not in DVD or Blu ray format. You'll need software to convert the video format on the PVR to DVD first. there are several converters that will do that. Google video to dvd converters.

Regrettably not helpful - if I convert to DVD format, I'll lose HD quality - unless you know otherwise...

  • Lawrence Oravetz Apr 02, 2015

Writing to blu ray will still need a format converter since the video has to be put into the proper format in order to be written to disk

I have a Daewoo DH 6111D HDD/DVD Recorder. I have recordered a program on HQ on the Hard Drive for 2.5 Hrs. The problem I have is that I cannot Dub this to a DVD disc because there is not enough space...

If you try to burn this on a single layer DVD disk then you will get this error message unless your DVD burn program can compress the video so it can fit on a single layer DVD disc.
OTHERWISE
You need to upgrade your burner to a dual layer burner and burn your video onto a dual layer DVD disc.

Whenever I copy a DVD it says there isn't enough space, and I have to use a dual layer disc.

This happens because there is not enough space on the DVD and generally Dual-Layer DVDs have much more space. Unfortunately there is no "fix" for this.

Can you copy from a blu ray disk to the HDD

There is only one program at the moment that can decrypt Blu Ray movies. That is AnyDVD HD. You can download the free trial from www.slysoft.com but it is only good for 21 days, after which you'd have to buy it. To burn the movie to another disk you would need a Blu Ray burner and blank blu ray media. Many Blu ray movies are very large, I think they average over 30 gb, so they won't fit onto the 25gb blank BD-R or BD-RE disks without compression or trimming out unwanted extras. 50gb blank disks are available, but are still very expensive. Of course, if the movie happens to be one of those small enough to fit a 25gb blank disk, then you can do a straight transfer. You can use ImgBurn in UDF 2.5 mode to burn blu ray movies. If you want to select just the main movie and one audio track, you might be able to fit a movie onto a BD-R 25gb disk, but it depends on which movie you are trying to back up. You can use tsMuxer to select portions once the movie is decrypted, and then output as a blu ray disk. You can also use a program called BD Rebuilder. It will compress the movie to fit onto a 25gb blank disk. It can also compress to fit onto dual layer or single layer blank dvds....but those disks won't play in all Blu Ray players and the latest version's output is causing playback problems in PS3's when using blank dvds instead of blank BD-R disks. You should also be aware that compressing high definition video takes a powerful computer and a great deal of time. My last attempt to compress a Blu Ray movie to a dual layer dvd size took 14 hours using a Core2Duo based machine

It goes to a black screen with a yellow sign with a arrow on it pointing down, it also has a green, yellow, and red bar at the bottom.it stops at the red.

Had this same issue. Your probably trying to play either Crank2 or StarWars. Talked to Panasonic Tech Support and they said not enough memory to play disc and gave me these instructions:

"This movie title requires that an SD card of 128MB or larger to be inserted into the BluRay player prior to inserting the BD disc each time you watch this movie.

The SD card must be formatted in the BlRay player before use. (Do not format the SD card on your PC)

Formatting an SD card in the player:
-Insert an SD card (1GB or higher) into the SD slot of your BluRay
-Press [FUNCTIONS], select "other Functions" and press [OK]
-Select "Card Management" and press [OK], then follow the on-screen commands

Once formatting is complete, leave the SD card in the SD card slot. Insert the movie disc into the BluRay player and it should play normally."

Personal note, the bar graph that has always stopped at the red will hesitate for quite a while and then the rest of the bar will fill up and BD will begin to play.

What does "multi layer support" mean. Does it write multi layer discs? or is it able only to read them? Also, what is a lightscribe?

Multi-Layer support means the drive can Read/Write a Dual-Layer discs.

Lightscribe means you can create a label on a disk.

Can not copy large dual layer data file written with NERO 6

According to other sources (in Afterdawn) the problem lies with the media. Memorex
(Ritek) have apparently dumped a lot of cheap quality media into the market which
do not have a smooth layer transfer. Apart from that, I also noticed several badly
recorded discs (compared to some Mitsubishi discs I had earlier). Apparently these
are meant for the cheap Asian copy market (Ritek statement - search Internet
reviews). I now have to save up enough in order to buy those expensive Verbatim
discs (or use DVDShrink).

Personally, I feel that the disc manufacturers should get together with companies
like Nero and manufacturers of burners to solve such problems before dumping it onto
the consumers. This is irresponsible marketing (very common today).
