Question about IBM Computers & Internet
You may have to put in a password. if the bios screen is where you need to put in the password and you don't remember it you should be able to clear the password in the BIOS you would have to get to the main board to see if there is a jumper to reset it or you can remove the main battery and the BIOS battery and wait about 10 minutes for it to fully discharge to let the password clear itself out of the BIOS. If you don't remember putting a password on your system then you have to find out who did and get it from them.

You can check the display by connecting it to the external monitor through the vga port of the laptop, if there is a display, then take your laptop to the technician and check it there

SOURCE: want the screen for ibm g40
Offhand, the LCD screen of most laptops is manufactured by a third party. So in effect the LCD screen of an IBM G40 could be manufactured by Philips, Samsung, Toshiba, Panasonic and any other. Additionally, they are readily available from most reputable laptop repair/replacement parts such as here, here or here. A few could also be sourced from eBay. Price would normally be dependent on the supplier.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Oops, straight from the manual for your laptop...
Problem: I forgot my password.
Solution: If you forgot your power-on password, you must take your computer to an IBM reseller or marketing representative to have the password canceled. If you forgot your hard disk password, IBM will not reset your password or recover data from the hard disk. You must take your computer to an IBM reseller or an IBM marketing representative to have the hard disk drive
replaced. Proof of purchase is required, and a fee will be charged for parts and service. If you forgot your supervisor password, IBM will not reset your password. Sorry to see that... Good luck.
