If another device worked plugged into your laptop then either the screen is bogus or the part of your computer that powers the screen is fubar. Take your choice. Screen less expensive to replace than the mo bo.
first,, get into your bios pages on my netbook its F2 whilst booting but yours might be different.Then get to know pages,navigate with the tab key or use arrows play around with the pages but dont change anything untill your sure you know what your doing--then when you are ready save changes and exit,,here you can remove bios password or reset to factory settings--good luck,,davey
if your system makes a connection with the device on plugin , you should here a dual toned sound indicating its been plugged in and recognised. if you here this and still dont get a popup. the device can be found by opening my computer link in start menu and then selecting the removable or flash drive icon usually listed last in the letter labels. c: being your main hard drive and so on.
unplug it from the mains plus any thing conected to the pc remove the battery leave it for ten miutes
while its off check the on off button isnt jamed.
replace the battery and boot it up see what happens if all good and anything you hadccted to it before 1 at a time.

Just follow this - press "Start" - choose "settings" - enter "today" in the first tab named "private" - choose the second tab named "Elements" or something like that - toggle "HTC Home" - press "OK" in the right top corner of the screen - no more clock on your screen
