About 80% of vehicles have the factory radiator fans turn clockwise, when looking at the front of the engines.

Hi, i replace the thermostat and water pump flashed the radiator has coolant but still overheating, what else could it be its golf 4 tdi diesel 2002. Thank you

Radiator may have rust/salt deposits inside, if that is case its cheaper and better to change the radiator. Also for future don't use normal tap water in radiator, use a coolant + ph balanced water meant for radiators to reduce salt buildup inside radiator.

Also check the radiator fan is working ok and rotating in the right direction, sucking cool air inside not blowing out hot engine air to the radiator. Some electric fans can have wires mixed up so they start in the wrong direction. (make sure fan is sucking cool air outside towards the engine).

In some cars, radiator fan has a top cover that stops hot engine air getting sucked by the fan, if your car has it, make sure it is fitted properly and is in good order.

Some cars have a fan fitted on the AC condenser, make sure this fan is working as well.

Tip

How to test and replace radiator cooling fan.

Hi.

Here a tip illustrating steps to test and replace the radiator cooling fan and the parts that may cause cooling fan malfunctioning.

Before replacing the fan, make sure that the fan is really faulty.
Read volts at fan contacts or jump the fan wiring to energize the fan directly.Ensure that fan blades are not blocked.

If the fan is OK, then the faulty part is either thermostat or fan relay.Ensure also that you have tested the 15A fuse in the junction block and the 40A fuse located in the Power distribution Center (PDC).

Here a diagram showing the location of the fan relay:

Finally, here below the steps required to replace the fan. The procedure is quite simple.

  • Disconnect the battery negative cable and set it apart.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector to the radiator fan.
  • Undo the bolts that hold the top fan housing and fan assembly (this is called Radiator Shroud).
  • Remove the Radiator Shroud housing. The radiator shroud will come out with the fan sliding toward the top side.
  • Install the new fan performing the operations in reverse order.

Here a diagram showing radiator shroud and cooling fan assembly:

Car is overheating even though the fan is connected directly.

can you turn the fan easily when the engine is off ?
if the answer is yes, you have a viscous fan hub ( fan clutch) and it is in need of replacing
the fan will spin but has no direct drive to pull the air through the radiator
if the fan is bolted directly to the water pump shaft hub, the I suggest that you start with a compression test, then a coolant system pressure test , followed by a radiator flow test to check for blocked cores

The electric radiator fan won't work. hook it up direct and it works

Chase wire down from fan back to engine sensor at the end of it change it then and double check fuzes it will tell you of surge of power but not of a bad sensor

Maza 323 radiator fan rotating direction

the direction of fan rotation will be on the motor body but check that th curved edge ( leading edge) of the fan blade is facing the radiator and that air is being pulled through th radiator. THe motors are dc operation and can spin in both directions and the fans themselves are made to fit in front of the radiator( a/c fan) and blow air through the radiator. So checking these points is necessary

May i know the rotation of the two auxillary fan along the radiator to reduced the heat on it

The fans can spin in either direction based on how the fan blade is position. If you're worried about the fan facing the right direction here's how to verify it. When the fan is on it is suppose to pull the air through the radiator and pushing it out into the engine compartment. Basically the fan helps more air come into the front of the car which in return cools down the radiator. So just check which way the air is being sucked in and pushed out, the outwards air should be going in the direction towards the rear of the vehicle. If you have any more questions please let me know.

One of my fan is not working 1999 Honda Accord

Which fan is not working, A/C or Radiator? Check fuses, if good disconnect fan plug, direct wires from battery to fan to check fan, if fan does not work change. If fan works check water temp sensor for radiator. A/C fan only comes on when A/C is switch on. Like wise radiator fan only comes on when water reaches a certain temperature.

Radiator fan doesn' run

If you can apply 12volts directly to the fan connection and it runs, then the fan thermostat is your problem. If a direct connection does not work, then the fan motor has failed and will need to be replaced.

Cooling fan direction??

Yes, Massive air flow from the first fan is causing air to be brought in from not only the front of the radiator but from the fan right next to it causing reverse air flow through the fan. This intern can cause less dirrect airflow through the radiator. Also, the recirculation of hot air (from the first fan) into the second fan, across the radiator and back to the first fan can cause the vehicle to run hotter. Wile the car is moving there is enough air pressure from the outside of the vehicle to flow directly through the radiator with little fan assistance needed. If you have the engine running and and turn on the a/c, you should hear the fan change speed or even see the second one turn on (If the fan is working), there is no delay. You might have a bad relay and good fan, as there is a separate relay that activates this same fan for the a/c.
