Question about Kenwood KMC-21 - Speaker Microphone

Open Question

I have a Kenwood tk-2170 connected to a kmc-21 speaker mic. I can receive but not transmit, basically nothing but static when I speak into the mic. Is the mic defective or do I need to do something?

If I may add to luckydave's post, you can verify if it is the internal speaker which is at fault by connecting an ear piece or an external speaker to the jack. In some instances, it could be due to worn out volume control and/or squelch control.

Good luck and kind regards.

with the indulgence of IrishDruid and many thanks to micromaster....

The radios are compatible since as you posted "...both radios work perfect by themselves..."

Based on your post, I would suspect that the transmit audio line from the Autocom to the mic input of the Kenwood TK3102 is faulty/not connecting right. All others (receive audio and PTT) are wired correctly. This is inline with what IrishDruid has initially posted. Additionally, the Autocom is also working since it kicks the PTT through its VOX (voice activated relay) and there is transmit (albeit the TX audio) or manual PTT.

Additionally, there are some 2.5mm connectors that are just a bit short of what Kenwood requires.

Kenwood Protalk tk-3200U8P will receive, but not transmit. When talk button is push a loud beep will sound. Any suggestions?

Assuming it is programmed correctly, it is a weak, undercharged or bad battery. Transmit takes a lot more power than receive. A beep or no transmit, even if the Transmit light comes on can still mean the battery condition described.

Loud squeal/feedback noise when transmitting from a Kenwood TK-3230 to a TK-3400U4p

If you're close enough to hear the receive on one radio while transmitting on the other, it's good old-fashioned feedback. Turn the volume down on the receiving radio.

Kenwood TK-3131 15-channel radio. I purchased a couple of these about a month ago and try worked fine. Turned them on recently and now one doesn't function as it sends a signal when the mic...

By checking initially of your radio, insert your NEW FULLY CHARGE BATTERY,Switch On your radio, select the channel the same as your other working radio, and try it once more,
If you can not heard an alert sounds when you turn on the radio, and pressing any Button/key,probably you'll having a problem on the audio circuits/speaker,etc, if it is working before,
Thank you

Kenwood tk-3140 two way radios

It could be one of several problems [a] Transmit switch has got moisture in it and is staying on so you can't receive [b] speaker could be blown but unlikely, more likely connection is corroded easy to fix if you have a proper electronic soldering iron.
check radio for internal moisture and corrosion, clean thoroughly and try again. [c] lastly if the solid state part for the sound has gone , chuck the radio out it's cheaper than trying to repair it unless you want to take it apart yourself or if you have another old one to use for parts
