If you don't empty the lint trap every time you dry clothes, it builds up, falls out and ends up right in front of the blower on the motor. Eventually stopping the flow of air out the vent hose. Suggestion: Unplug the dryer and remove the back panel. Remove the lint trap from the top of the dryer and remove the two screws at the opening.
In the back, you'll see a large duct that goes from where you removed the two screws in the top, down to the bottom in front of the motor. It's held in place by four screws. Remove the screws and pull the duct out of the dryer. More than likely, it's going to be full of lint and no telling what else.
If you have the means, blow any lint you see, out of the dryer housing and off he motor before reinstalling that duct. his should stop the burning smell. If it doesn't, Please, call a pro and have it checked out. Dryer fires are more common than people think.
Best of luck to you. I hope I helped some.

Hi Paul

At the very least, it could be that lint has collected in the vent hose.
There have been cases where lint has bypassed the lint trap and gone places that it shouldn't be.

Worst case scenario is that your dryer motor is checking out.

I'd have a pro look at this if there is no lint in the vent hose.

Sounds like a over heated motor which starts when the motor is cool but not after it runs and stop. Burning smell comes from the heated windings on the motor coils.
Make sure that the pully is not binding...which i doubt.

It is common to have a slight burning smell in the dryer immediately following a clean and inspect of the cabinet. Although you may have cleaned the dryer cabinet interior and the ventilation ducting, dust particles often get stirred up and will settle on the heating element. These small particles will eventually burn off and should not create any hazards to the operation of the appliance. Allow to run for a few minutes and monitor. The smell should go away.

I have an ASKO T700 dryer. When I turn it on, it makes a high pitched squeak. If it's on for longer than a minute, I can smell a burning smell. Any suggestions?

you got a roller or belt idler not turning and burning the drum belt. you have to take the dryer apart and find the problem. if you need to lubricate a roller or idler use mineral oil or roller oil, do not use wd-40 or 3 in one.

You most likely have a weak, malfunctioning igniter. you can remove the lower panel and watch the ignition procedure. Here is a website that has more details that will help, Tim:

MY DRYER VIBRATES VERY BADLY, THE CLOTHES STILL SPIN BUT THE WHOLE UNIT MOVES ALOT AND AFTER A FEW MINUTS IT STARTS TO SMELL LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING.

This sounds like the rubbing strips at the front of the dryer are badly worn and/or the rear bearing is worn. From your description - the drum is sticking - causing the motor to slip on the belt - causing the burning smell.
Replace worn parts including the drive belt.

Disconnect the dryer from your vent completely,. pull dryer out 3 ft. from wall and test to see if the smell continues, You have to test for a few minutes to clear out any burning lint from vent restrictions. If the smell hoes away then you know you have venting problems. Also check on the grate that covers the element( the part you look through when you see the orange glow from the element) sometimes plastic or clothing burns onto this grate and needs to be cleaned off. I the smell remains, you will have to tear down the dryer to see if you can find the cause of the smell.

it is most likely the belt. the squealing noise is because the motor is turning, but the belt is not. a replacement belt is not too expensive and it is fairly easy to replace. if you need directions how to replace it, let me know
