Not an easy thing to reset either. You can try putting chain brake back on with the retaining nut(s) loose so don't go flying. Now place the reset handle as far forward it will go. While pressing hard with hand at the chain reset location of the cover pull back on the reset handle. This should reset the brake.

Note this will not always work and sometimes you need a saw shop to help reset it.

My Husqvarna starts but won't accelerate when you pull the trigger, acts like the brake is on but the handle is in the free position.

It may be running very rich, make sure the air filter is clean, if ok. check the spark arrestor in the muffler outlet ( if fitted ) has not carboned up, if ok, check the exhaust port is not blocked with carbon.

Have tried everything but cover will not go back on the husqvarna 445. there is just not enough clearance for the band to go back onto the drum. have tried even adjusting the band tension but that...

The problem you are experiencing is very common. Many people remove the side cover with the chain brake applied or either the brake becomes engaged after the cover has been removed. You will need to reset the brake before you can install it. This is a little tricky but can be accomplished. I find that it is done fairly easy by carefully clamping the side cover in a vise, and using a good strong pair of needle nose, span the "rotator" (star shaped wheel) on the brake and with another pair of pliers, grab the needle nose pliers and "twist" the brake into the disengaged position. Hope this is explained well enough to get the job done.

I HAVE A 235 16"

A Husky 445 has a compression release (about the same bar length) which gets around this difficulty. We have a 435 Husky that has the same problem--your arm needs to be in pretty good shape to pull them through. We have found that the saw needs only one pull with the choke full on to be able to start on the second or third pull. Back the choke off about half to make the following pulls. Other than replace the saw, not much help I'm afraid.

Trying to fit bar and chain on a new 445.can not replace clutch cover after following instructions closely.it seems brake is on. WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE HELP. THANKS.

You'll definitely have to unlock the chain brake to get the cover back on. You should be able to unlock it by pushing the chain brake handle forward, toward the bar and chain when mounted on the saw.

Have husq 445 removed clutch cover to install bar and chain brake not disengaged cannot replace cover. How to disengage with cover off to reassemble?

Use a heavy, wide blade, square-shanked screwdriver to turn the coupling in the cover to 'release'. You may need an open end wrench on the screwdriver shaft to get enough torque to turn the brake coupling. Hope this helps!

Engine speeding up on idle is normally due to an air leak, check the carb securing screws are tight, if you have a leaking crank seal it will be a shop repair.
