Question about Water Water Heaters

1 Answer

Is it possible to clear an error 4 (over heat sensor tripped)?

The heater didn't reach the high temp by itself, this heater is used as backup for an outdoor wood burner. During the worst of winter it did see water above 190 degrees. Can the error be cleared without replacing the gas control valve/thermostat as the manual indicates?

I wouldn't think that sensor would trash at 190 but if the manual says overheated sensor--I'd go with that and replace it providing it's not an exotic priced sensor---the sensor as far as I know should be independent from the gas valve but since I don't know what make/model/type/age of unit my answers are generic good luck Happy Rabbit

My water heater will heat up the water, once it comes to temp, the pilot light goes out.

depends on the year it was made , but if it was made after 2010 there is a high possibility it has electronic ignition, these models don't have a standing pilot and all signs of flame go away after it reaches temperature, I guess the best way is to see if it relights after using some of the hot water and it adds some cold water into itself , if its this type it will relight itself and burn to heat up cold water

Code 211 comes on but vent is clear of any debris or blockage. Sometimes can go days without alarm sounding sometimes alarm sounds 3-4 times in 10 minutes.

Generally tankless must be maintained on yearly basis.
Error codes are usually stored in the computer memory until they reach a threshold and then the error code is displayed... it is possible the control board is bad.. or the sensor that feeds information to the control board is bad.
Contact manufacturer or installer.
Contact local service technician who is qualified on that specific brand.

You've done the required first-step troubleshooting and maintenance.
If thermal cutout keeps tripping, and unit is actually reaching 185, then something is wrong with wiring, temperature sensor, gas valve, or PC board. Or combination of factors.

Error code e2. inlet water temp sensor. any one have to fix this?

Before calling service technician, open following link for Bosch troubleshooting resources, including error codes, manual, Bosch contact info, and service bulletins.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Bosch-Tankless-water-heater.html

Error codes are starting point for troubleshoot.
e2 is cold water temperature sensor fault.
Bosch error code says: 1) Check connector on wires coming from top of water valve for a secure connection.
2) Sensor may trip if water temperature drops below freezing to protect heater from freezing conditions Any damage due to freezing conditions is not covered under warranty.

Another contributing cause can be temperature thermostat set very high and tankless sensor is going bad, and very cold incoming water, or combination of factors above.

Also read manual for advisories and required maintenance. Some units require water filter be cleaned monthly.

I don't have specific suggestion for tankless tripping breaker or if that is a circuit breaker problem or a tankless problem.

1) Move wires to another same-size breaker and see if problem persists.

2) Compare amp draw on tankless label with wire size and breaker size amp rating.
For example 30 amp breaker using 10ga wire is rated for 80% of listed amps or 24 amps.

3) If you are drawing full 30 amps, then 30 amp breaker is getting hot. Breaker trips with heat. Older breakers can trip more easily.

5) Be sure to read manual for yearly maintenance requirements.

6) Add a tempering tank for incoming cold water problem.

We have to reset daily A-7

Before calling service technician, open following link for troubleshooting resources including error codes, manual, links to bosch, phone number, :

A7 is outlet temperature sensor fault.
Temperature below freezing or above 210 degrees F

1) Check red wire connections at hot water temperature sensor. Clean terminals with an eraser. If badly corroded, replace sensor and wire harness. (See Fig. 63, page 46 in manual).
2) Sensor may trip if water temperature drops below freezing to protect heater from freezing conditions. Any damage due to freezing conditions is not covered under warranty.
3) Clean inlet filter screen and clear any debris out of shower heads, faucet aerators and whole house filters.
4) In areas where water has a high mineral content, periodic descaling may be necessary.

We are getting A7 error on Bosch 2700ES. Is our water too cold going in? We are in on well water system in Alaska. Do you have any solutions on how to get it to come back on?

Here is the A7 code for this heater:

Outlet temperature sensor fault

(Temperature below freezing or

above 210°F).

1. Check red wire connections at hot water temperature sensor.

Clean terminals with an eraser. If badly corroded, replace sensor

and wire harness. See Fig. 65, page 48.

2. Sensor may trip if water temperature drops below freezing to

protect heater from freezing conditions. Any damage due to

freezing conditions is not covered under warranty.

3. Clean inlet filter screen and clear any debris out of shower

heads, faucet aerators and whole house filters.

4. In areas where water has a high mineral content, periodic
descaling may be necessary.

I would be very surprised if your water temp is below freezing, even in Alaska, check it with a thermometer. Well water is usually around 45 degrees F.
Let me know,
Gary

I have a propane hot water tank that in discharging the hot water out the relief valve (Champion energy saver series)

possible problems not knowing age of unit the
control valve could be sticking open allowing gas to continue to flow until high limit is reached and shuts down valve another possible problem with the newer style back flow preventer being install by water companys the rapid heating and expansion of the water over pressures the water system causing releif valve to pop open and reclose most water heater manufacters are recommending instalation of an expansion tank to allow the growth in volume of water somewhere to go is valve constantly leaking or only during heating cycle if you could supply additional information does unit only leak when heating
or is steam expelled when releif valve opens
t-stat not opening gas valve sticking partially open
bad high limit bad pressure releif valve no expansion tank to allow for thermal expansion if steam is present and unit is boiling water inside replacement of water heater for safety concerns, would be reccomended if only water and pops couple of times water temp not over 140 degrees after most hot water has been used out of tank and is reheating most of capacity probably lack of expansion tank as the releif valve is the final safety device on a water heater is of great concern
the temp control gas valve or high limit are supposed to shut unit done long before the safety limit of releif valve is reached

AE115....1 element keeps heating after water is turned off causing overheat sensor to trip.

Hello, W/D here.

You have a defective thermostat. The elements will continue to heat until they reach the set point of the thermostat. Try to lower the temp setting first. If that does not fix it, you'll need to repalce the thermostat, located very near the element, under the screwed cover on the side of the tank.
Best regards, --W/D--
