sounds like a bad display (screen going out)?

Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). check if the line appears in BIOS...dont worry when i say BIOS...not sure how to check...turn the system off...restart the system and keep tapping the F2 key...you would get a Blue screen...check if the lines appear on this screen...if it appears...it could either be b'cause the display driver has gone wrong or the system might have a physical damage.....if the lines does not occur on this screen....it is a manufacturing defect...please contact the manufacturer and report the issue for solution.......

from my experience can be something related with the video card. I recommend you the followig (Hardware diagnostics):

-Look for one of the discs that came with your computer, it should say (Drivers & utilities).
-Boot from the CD. If you don't know how to do it do the following:
1.Insert the Drivers&Utilities Disk.
2.Restart teh computer.
3. When you get the Dell logo, press F12
4.Select Boot from CD/CDRW-DVD (something like that).
-You will get a prompt to run the diagnosics.
-Just follow the wizard
-I recommend you to run diagnostics for everything.
-You will see if you have any problems with your hardware.

It seems that you have a pretty new laptop, so probably it's under warranty.

This is usually caused by a problem in the Horizontal Output section, around the Horizontal Output transformer usually a capacitor or diode going or gone faulty... the line you see are the Horizontal "Retrace" lines that are useually "Hidden" when the circuit is OK..

yOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM IN HORIZONTAL CIRCUIT OR IN YOUR POWER SUPPLY kindlyu take your T.V tO A QUALIFIED TECH to repair it.ypur problem could be a faulty capacitor ,flyback or horizontal output transistor.

Sound like you have to turn down the G2 (screen)controls. They are turned up too high.
