I would assume the mower deck was engaged, check the shear half moon key in the shaft and flywheel. they are made to shear to prevent engine damage. other than that, check all the safty switches that keep the mower from starting unless they are engaged.

What can I do to stop a roof leak now?

You can always use a tarp for a temporary fix immediately, but hopefully this link will help with your problem.

Mending a tear in a poly tarp

Some holes in a poly tarp are able to be fixed easily while there will be other tears that might be grounds for tossing the tarp. For most small tears you can fix them yourself using some tarp repair tape and vinyl repair cement.

Before beginning gather up all your tools, a damp towel, a dry towel, utility knife or scissors, a role of tarp repair tape, a small jar of vinyl repair cement and a hair dryer.

You will want to find a clean place to lay out the tarp somewhere where there won't be any wind blowing your tarp around. If you do have to fix the tarp outside use weights or rocks to hold the sides down.

Find the hole or weak spot on the tarp and if there is any fraying use your scissors or utility knife to cut off the frays. If there are any bumps you will want to cut them out too.

After cutting off the frays you need to clean the area around the hole. The reason you need to clean it is because dust and dirt can make it difficult for the tape to stick. All you need is a little water and dish soap on a damp towel. Rub the solution onto the tarp at least six inches all the way around the rip, you can clean farther to be safe, but six inches should be enough.

Wipe off the soapy solution with fresh water and wipe dry the area with a clean dry towel. Repeat this cleaning for both sides of the tarp.

To close the tear, place your tarp repair tape over the hole and extend it out at least four inches on to the undamaged area. First cover the tear horizontally overlapping if you need more than one piece of tape. Once the tear is covered completely horizontally overlap the tape with a layer of tape vertically covering the hole and extending four inches on either side. Repeat for other side of the hole.

It is important that after you tape up the hole you need to let the tape sit for ten minutes to make sure that it has bonded properly. When you come back after ten minutes open your jar or vinyl repair cement and apply a generous amount of cement over the whole taped up area. To dry the cement grab your hair dryer and blow hot air on the cement until it is dry.

And there you have it a fixed tarp, granted not all holes can be fixed this way. But after its been fixed you can use it again like new.

Rake your leaves to the tree lawn in no time!

When I was growing up it was always a family activity in the fall raking up the leaves in the yard. Over the years I have seen my parents try a whole slew of techniques for getting those pesky leaves from the yard to the tree lawn.

The technique explained in this tip will only work if you live in a city that does leaf pick up using a vacuum truck to pick up the leaves. If you have to bag your leaves then this technique will not be helpful.

The one way that they found to be the most efficient although a little physically exerting involved a few rakes and a large tarp. If you have a large yard you will want to get a few helpers.

Start by picking a place to layout the tarp. When the location has been selected start raking the leaves away from this spot so that you have a clear space to layout the tarp.

Once the tarp has been laid out rake the leaves on to the tarp. You can lift the sides of the tarp to move them in to the middle so you will have space for the rest of the leave in the yard. Continue raking the leaves into smaller piles and then add them to the pile on the tarp until the yard is clear.

When all or most of the leaves have been moved from the grass to the tarp you are ready to move this mountain to the tree lawn. Gather up two of the corners of the tarp and carefully not to lift the corners too high so that the leaves don't fall off the other end. Drag the tarp from the back yard or front yard to the tree lawn.

Line the edge of the tarp up with the edge of the tree lawn and lift the far side of the tarp up towards the tree lawn. Lift it like you are going to flip the tarp onto the tree lawn. This will make the leaf mountain flip on to the tree lawn and walla! the leaves are ready to be picked up or played in by your kids!

I stalled the engine by catching a tarp. Now it will not start.

Hi Garry:
Odds are pretty good that the flywheel has spun a bit and sheared the key. The fix should not be too nasty. You'll need to pull the flywheel and install a new key.
Hope this helps.

Yardman troubleshooting

More than likely the bearings on the mower deck that your lawnmower blades bolt to are seized or are close to it .Disconnect the negative battery cable from battery before you get anywhere near the underside where the blades do there business. Better yet, remove battery completely, and have it tested at AUTOZONE for free. While battery is out , check free spin of deck blades. Any resistance or grinding while blades are disengaged >debris , fence wire , rope tarp, etc.. or bearing failure. [DUE TO THE NATURE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THE POSSIBILITY OF SERIOUS INJURY, I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND TAKING IT TO BE CHECKED AT INDY SHOP. ... ALTHOUGH COMMON SENSE WILL GO FAR IF YER MECHANICALLY INCLINED. .. YOU TUBES VIDS ARE A GOOD STARTING POINT. NOTE:BEARINGS CAN BE REPLACED,, WHEREAS A HAND OR A FOOT ...AINT AS EASY. Good luck

Can a tarp protect my belongings in a fire?

There are flame retardant tarps. It's made out of material that either stops a fire from reaching under or else a material that slows down the fire from spreading. Some tarps are registered with the fire marshalls.

Give some importance of cheap tarps?

It is amazing that how much of an impact a simple item such as a tarp can have on our world. In 2010 the earthquake in Haiti created a high demand of cheap tarps. And when someone suggested that temporary shelter may be the heavy duty tarp, people from all over the world responded.

What's a footprint tarp?

It is a tarp that fits exactly under the footprint of your tent, but is an inch or two smaller. If you have a 10' x 10' tent, your tarp would be about 9'10" x 9'10". If you have a triangle-shaped tent, your tarp would be triangle-shaped.

It is smaller than the tent so rain (etc) does not dribble down the tent wall, land on the tarp, and pool under the tent.

Car starts then stalls once the engine warms up.

You need new timing belt and gears. Buicks gears are made of plastic, and become a big glob. Nothing for the timing belt to grab onto.
