Directions above are for a Whirlpool dryer not a GE front load dryer.
To remove top panel--there are 2 screws going down through the front edge of the top panel. In some cases you need to remove the complete control panel to access those screws. Pull dryer main knob straight out away from control. You will see 1 screw behind knob (I think it is torx head). Remove screw and gently pry upward on sides of control panel. It should pop up off tabs. If you unplug wiring harness you can put control panel aside. Now you can see and access the 2 front screws. Remove those and raise panel front and pull forward slightly and lift off panel. Reverse proceedure to reassemble.

Pretty easy! Standing in front of the dryer, reach to the back of the control panel and pull the lid towards you, lifting up on the front of the lid at the same time. There's two clips under the front of the lid that holds it in place. One on each side You may need to do one side at a time, but if you pull the lid forward and lift up on the front... it'll pop right up!
Good luck, I hope I was of some help,

They can probably help, especially if you have a reason to take the top off and it is not performing properly.

Lift the control panel aside.
Pull the top lid forward to remove it.
Reach inside the right and left front corners to remove the screws holding the front panel to the cabinet.
Remove the door switch wires and set the front panel aside.

I have a top loading GE model WBB3300 that is making noise

Use a putty knife to push in the retaining clips (2) in the seam between the front panel and the washer's top, allowing front panel removal. Push tab at back of lid switch forward to allow lid switch to be removed from washer top. Remove screw on each side near top, allowing washer top to be removed. One at a time, you can unhook the suspension rods at the bottom by lifting up on the tub support frame and unhooking the rod. Lift the rod a little at the top and apply a wad of lithium grease in that ball and socket joint. Rehook the rod at the bottom, and move on to the next rod. Reassemble.

Either one of 2 ways to get to the thermostat on a GE dryer.....

depending on your model, you will have an access point on the back of the dryer to get to the heating element which has attached to it, the thermostat.

If there isn't an access point on the rear of the unit, open the front door of the dryer and remove the 2 screws in the top of the door opening. Using a small prybar, slightly apply pressure prying up the lid. On the inside of the face of the dryer in the corners will be 2 more screws, remove those and pull the face of the dryer outwards to you to about a 45 degree angle. From there, you will be able to lift off the face. Be cautious to unplug the wires for the door switch before pulling the face all the way out. There isn't much to a 10 yr old dryer, just take your time, study the parts and put it back just as you took it apart. For the replacement thermostat or heating element look at

Good luck and let me know if there is any more trouble I can help with.
