Question about Hard Computers & Internet
External hard drives will not work with phones/tablets as they require too much power.
If you need more storage use a memory card (MicroSD)
or if you just want the files etc on the phone copy it via a computer.

SOURCE: Portable external hard drive
Depending on hoe old the machine is, the usb ports may not have the power to support some of the newer externals. I recently purchased a WD 250g external and the ports on one of my older machines doesn't have the power to support it. Check the owners manual or with the manufacturer to see what the input rating is and cross reference this to the output of the ports on your machine.

Good day sir/maam, I had the same problem with my generic external drive, keeps blinking but cant be recognized by the PC. chances are the Maxtor is done, you can salvage the Hard disk inside. Visit your dealer if its under warantee demand for a replacement they may also have service people to take a look at the drive. hope this helps

If your system detects the connected device that is a good start. Was the drive formatted for another operating system? Certainly try the drive on another system and/or another drive on your system.
