More than likely you have the temp to low for to long. Try raising it a bit and see if it is still freezing.

House a/c only freezes during the day works fine at night

Check the filter. And the fins in the coil. If these are clogged the airflow is restricted and the condensation freezes on the coil. The previous owner may not have changed the filter as often as they should have leading to restricted air flow. Also its hotter during the day and the unit is working harder than at night.

Unit cools great but when extremly hot weather occurs it eventually freezes up.

dirty filters in the indoor unit.As the ambient temperature rises the unit will work harder and longer, its fine when its just a normal day because the evaporator coil wont have time to ice up as the compressor will cycle off before the coil freezes totally, but during extreme ambient temperatures the coil will ice up as the compressor will continue running to reach set-point causing the coil to ice up

If your coil is freezing at night, it sounds like your getting cold enough at night to have your saturation temperature drop below the design of what the AC is able to do. If it runs all day without an issue and freezes up at night, you need to add what is called an outdoor fan cycling switch. This will turn the condenser fan off when the saturation temperature drops so it will not freeze your coil at night. You need to have an HVAC technician install this. It is not a DIY projuect since it has adjustments that need to be right. Plus, it it's a heat pump, it needs to drop the switch off in the winter.

It keeps freezing up if you put it past #5

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly. Freeze ups are caused by a couple things.

1. The first thing is a dirty evaporator coil. Air conditioners that run 24 hours a day should be thoroughly cleaned every 90 days.

2. The Blower fan wheel is dirty

3. The fan motor is not running fast enough.

Most of the time these 3 items listed above are the main reasons and Air Conditioner Freezes up.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

I have a beverage air kegerator that seems to work fine, but the evaporator fan runs constantly. Is it supposed to run constantly, or is it supposed to cycle on and off with the compressor, etc.?

Most evaporator fans run all the time. This is mainly to use the air flow to assist in melting off any frost build up during the compressor off cycle. If that fan shut off with the compressor the coil will have a tendency to freeze up. :)

Brand new Dometic rooftop ac,freezes up at night, does fine during day...??

This is common for most air conditioners and is normal due to humidity levels being higher at night causing more condensation build up and then freezing. Solution: Turn down thermostat at night to allow compressor to turn on and off.

Outside a/c fan quits but compresser still runs

it sounds like the fan is over amping itself and shutting down on thermal overload check the amp draw during running time and compare it to the sticker on the outside panel it should be running .9 amps, and it will over heat if it runs around 1.2 amps or above

Price to replace cooling coil on WeatherKing 12AJA4801

If the coil was frozen over it tells me there is a different problem. If the coil is frozen over try this. turn the circulating fan to the on position and the sir conditioning to off . Let it run this way for 1-2 hours to melt the ice and re-establish the air circulation. Then turn the a/c back to the cool mode and see how it performs.

Lower temperatures during evening and night conditions can cause coils to freeze over. Running you A/C with the fan in the on position generally takes care of this problem when you are cooling.

FREEZING COILS

Hi, Sounds like its low on refrigerant. Could also be restricted air flow inside. Turn the AC off and the inside fan on for about 3-4 hours to thaw out the evaporator. Replace the inside air filter. If you can see the side of the evaporator that the air goes into, check to see if it has a blanket of fuzz on it. If so, It can be cleaned with a credit card while its wet by scraping along with the fins. Turn the AC back on and let it run for about 20 minutes. The large line outside should sweat all the way to the compressor but the compressor should stay mostly dry. There may not be anything wrong with you unit. When it is cooler at night they will sometimes freeze if the thermostat is turned down too low during the night and the air restriction will not let it thaw during the day. Hope this helps. kstfas
